Ladies, thank you! I value everyone's thoughtful opinions. I am not going to buy the coat, although I love the styling. Thank you for helping me avoid a potential less-than-satisfactory purchase. (Whew! Saved again by YLF!)

Alecia, you asked about Tulle. I've ordered from their site and really dig their styles. Things don't always fit me right, so it's not as "sure fire" for me as when I order from stores that I find more consistent in style and fit like AT or Express, where I feel more confident that what I order will fit alright. But the prices of their sale (tomorrow and Saturday) are AMAZING. They had this same sale on black Friday, and I ordered 6 items (a dress, a skirt, a shirt dress, a jumper, a top, a cami) for a total of less than $100. I just got my package yesterday and am keeping 3 of the items and will send three back. It was definitely worth it.
Laura - very cute coat! I personally would not get a plain black one because of the issue mentioned before, it shows lint and stains so easily (and I'm a big slob). I have one that's kinda speckled in a very dark grey with black, which is much more forgiving.

I totally agree Angie!

My JCREW black wool classic peacoat ALWAYS shows lint even right back from the dry cleaners.

I am not getting rid of it because it is only a year old (bought it pre-YLF) but I make sure to wear a textured colored scarf with it.

Now I only buy non-black coats and I thank you so much for the style tip!

*spanner" (sorry ladies). You can go wrong with a black coat. This is not the popular opinion on this forum but I have to stick up for my argument. That’s my job!

A black FLAT WOOL coat in a mainstream fabric composition is a tired option. You can do better than that. It picks up every conceivable bit of lint and can look harsh, boring, deadening and far from stylish. This is not to say that a black coat in a luxurious wool (like cashmere) is not fabulous. It is. But this will set you back close to a $1000 (to Jean’s point). A black coat in a NON WOOL mainstream fabrication is a better idea – something with texture, depth and repels lint. Tanya’s black chenille coat is the perfect example of that. She looked wonderful in it. Soooo, not all black coats are no-no’s.

That being said, Laura – do not let me deter you from purchasing this black coat. The style is adorable and I can see you sport the look. The ruffle shows a bit of personality. Unfortunately, the fabric is not ideal.

I avoid black because I've got lots of pets and black and pet hair don't mix. That jacket has a lot of personality without adding color.

Not to hijack the thread, but I've never seen tulle? Do you like the site? Have you had good experience with them?

Unless for some reason you wouldn't normally go with black i.e. your colouring doesn't suit it, I would echo the others and saying black is a great classic choice!!!

I don't think so. I remember Angie saying that black does show everything and it is hard to keep looking clean. I think it depends on the quality of the wool. There are times when it is great to have a black coat , particularly when you are wearing bright color or pattern underneath. I think black is always classic and not a forbidden choice.

I own 2 black wool coats--one is long and is a tone on tone brocade kind of style--the other is a simple wool pea coat. I never feel either coat is wrong. I get lots of compliments on both of them, and you can always add some color with a scarf!

I also don't think it's a no-no. In fact, I wore my black one ( which has a texture - it is boucle) to Boston YLF gathering and Angie approved of it.

Would it be okay to buy this wool trench coat in black?

http://www.tulle4us.com/jacket.....ats/S7118/

Tulle is having 50% on Dec. 12-13 - prices are incredible! I was scouting and really liked this trench - but it's only in black. Is that an automatic NO?
