Re rain pants, perhaps overkill but things don't really dry in Ireland unless you use laundry facilities in hotel. My thoughts are that it is probably overkill but then again who wants to be soaking wet? Go with your gut. If it isn't a big expense and wouldn't bug you not to use them bring them and forget about it, that way you won't worry. Or decide if you do get soaked through to send pants to laundry facilities.
Re cardigan. Take your most favourite. When I left did I think that I'd be using a boiled wool blazer and fleece lined rain jacket every day in August? Of course not but I did in fact flow this way. You have a fabulous wardrobe that is smart as well as functional.
Good decision re EB shirt. You will want comfort on the trip with very little sleep and an overload of happiness.
I wouldn't worry about the chunkiness of your shoe but bring the most comfortable and one that hits different pressure points than you others. I'd just assume it would be wet looking at the current and forecasted weather. I'd spray mine well before I left.
Plus, how much will you be outside? Do you plan on touring historical artifacts, shopping, pub crawling, etc. You can always nip in somewhere fabulous if caught in a real downpour unless you happen to be hiking.

Also have circled back to taking my EB half- placket shirt. It requires underlayer for sure but I have that. I like its length , hi- low hem and amount of ease over trousers so I feel good in it without a topper, or topper worn open, as if in room or overheated pub , compared to the fleece shirt which looks skimpy.

Freckles, since we are checking bags and not schlepping them too much I might cram them I'm. I could buy somd there but less likely to find that convenient and at the right time. Some blog advice says it's overkill. It'd be hard to put them on in the middle of an excursion- need to take off shoes, etc for the low- cost versions, compared to $$$ full- zip performance style. A potential use , for mild hiking or beach walking rather than in town, is if I'm just running so cold I need a third layer on legs.
Still trying to decide on hoodie- if I took that I'd have hoodie, cardigan and knit blazer for variety.
And the chunky shoe- whether to go more minimal on other things so as to add a shoe. Or, I have a very light lace up I could take but would not give as much of a different " look" .

Different time of year for me and it was quite dry while we were there. Our only true hike where we had horizontal rain was in the mountains. Would it be a big expense/inconvenience to take them and not need them? Would you ever use them at home in your day to day life?
Another thing I just thought of. When you purchase items in Ireland they give them to you in paper bags. I brought along one of those nylon or whatever fold up and put in your purse bags but never used it as I always had my tote with me but you may want to think about it. I knew I would be shopping while there though.
You are going to have a blast. I want to go back so badly...

Freckles that is too funny about re- packing, and yet that's why I'm having a bit of fun as well as indecision, because I have several options that would work as well.
I did find an inexpensive black rain pant here; DD uses them there but don't know if taking some is touristy overkill
And whether it's even practical to get them on when you need them. We' be on the northwest coast for a bit, some beach walking so would be damp & windy I expect.

I'm not sure about you but when I'm out and about all day if I go out at night I have to change my shoes, can't stay all day in the same pair. At night how much will you be walking? Out to dinner, a show, a pub, back to hotel... Any shoe can be made waterproof enough with the shoe spray. Do many light coats and let them dry completely between coats.
Which of the cardigans make you happiest? You will be living in these clothes and they will most likely stretch out more than usual.
How dressy will your events be? Scarves can be wonderful things. I brought a lot of jewellery because I thought I needed it to break up the monotony but had to force myself to change it a couple of times. Next time I will do without. Wear favourites and leave it at that. It's only a week afterall.
Nobody will bat an eye at whatever you wear and they are really friendly and make you feel at home no matter what. I wouldn't bring something that I wouldn't wear regularly unless I had a definite plan where it was needed or had the opportunity to wear it to please myself elsewhere.
Bring your rainjacket with you on the plane! At Dublin airport it is a long walk to anything, outdoors at that.
I'd bring the sock slipper afterall how much walking will you be doing in them? The hotel rooms/suites are small.
I'd bring my rain jacket with me on the plane, don't start your trip soaking wet. Plus if you do it won't rain hardly at all on your trip right?
I'm not sure if you do this but hubby and I pack half our clothes, toiletries, first aid supplies in each others bag on the off chance something gets delayed or destroyed.
Pack a diaper pin in your suitecase. You never know. If perchance your pants stretch out to three sizes bigger or zipper pulls break you really do need something stronger than a regular safety pin used to pin bra staps out of sight. Also some duct tape wrapped around a pencil or something. Will hold together a suitecase whose whole closing mechanism has broken, temporarily mend a big cut in pants, fix a broken shoe or purse strap, etc.
Sounds like things are really coming together for you. Even though I planned and planned what to pack the night before I took everything out and replaced half of it with other things not on the list, glad I did as everything was perfect. Good luck.

Carole, good thoughts. I am leaning toward putting in some kind of slipon, since the other pairs lace up, to shift the pressure points. Also take socks in some different weights.

Joy, I love your capsule! You achieved more color and springier colors than I. Still undecided about the light gray hoodie for that. Great idea about dressy Over - shirt. I tried my BR silk gray reptile print shirt but it is SO. Lightweight and maybe not fluid enough. Hmm.

When we went to Ireland in May last year, I packed some flats for pubs but only wore them once and then froze my feet. My deep grey ankle boots felt dressy enough although there were many women with heels.

I took a sheer animal print patterned poly buttondown blouse with assymetrical hem to pop over a longsleeved tee or even sweater for a bit of color and dressy. I was glad that I had it, although a scarf would have worked as well. It looks like you are well organized. What I took:

Well you are getting down to the nitty gritty! I would advice to be generous with your shoe situation. Last overseas trip I took the shoes I thought would be great for walking, couldn't even get on my feet for 2 days because of swelling! That had never happened to me before, what is that about! Anything essential (shoes versatile raincoat etc)I make sure to carry with me just in case I'm separated from my bag for awhile. Anything that would be too difficult to replace in, hurry goes in there too! I like the idea of versatile cardigans and I would worry so much about dressier shoe options especially if they aren't waterproof. I had a perforated pair or Reikers that I wore in spite of the rain and they worked out great for me!

The good news is, I have a core of items that will work.

But, I'm still playing with options via SYC. If you have some ideas, please chime in. Also random questions on other travel amenities.

Appropos Shiny's recommendation to take only cardigan-type items for more versatility, other options include:
1) Black long cardigan. Pro is it's black, is basic, some synthetic, may dry out well; con is black, maybe frumpy buttoned?
2) Cashmere hoody--I like the light color for a change, and it's not too casual for our trip, but I don't really need the hoody part. Can layer blazer over for sporty luxe, though! What do you think?

Appropos 3rd pair of shoes (wear black boots for travel, pack low-cut hike shoe) : I'm a little stumped. Only the track pants really benefit from a dressier shoe, style-wise except to have a non-gear option for a pub, or dinner in Dublin. Problem is, the slimmer and dressier the shoe, even a ballet flat, the less sock or support or water-happy they would be.
--I have non-water-resistant zebra flat (4) that is small/light but not good for walking (meaning travel-walking).
-- Chunky monkstrap slipon that isn't dressy, but is not a gear shoe and can stand a fair amount of walking, allows a cushy sock, works with all pants. This is the best non-laceup option I have that could actually be worn as regular footwear. But more room/weight packing.
--Not shown, ruled out vs. re-think: perforated black suede lightweight loafer. Pro: could sort of use as slipper on plane, takes a sock. Con: perforated, in Ireland!
? Try to include a 3rd pair, or stay minimal/gear with 2 pair?

5) Trying AT dark blue cotton-spandex chambray shirt for a woven, collared option. Is not warm, but can layer under & over, can remove if gets wet/warm (if underlayer is "decent"). Too cottony, may wrinkle? Any particular gain, or stick with knitwear?

?: Slippers on plane (afraid we're economy!) and around "the house" ? : I have thin-rubber-soled sock-slipper from a prior flight. Packs light/slim. No support for real wear. Or a cushier dorky light slipper, better for walking around but not for outdoors. I'm thinking minimalism, sock-slipper. (also if take the slip-on monkstraps, I'd have a quick slipon shoe available later).

?: Where to pack rain jacket, if we check luggage? In checked bag, risk no immediate raingear if bag delayed, or in tote bag, takes up room, hoped to pack change of clothes & other essential items there ?

Thanks for reading and any comments, on any part.
