Hi Sarah, welcome! Congrats for embarking on your style journey. Glad you got a bra fitting, that's the best way to start. And it's so great to hear that you want to replace your baggy clothes with more fitted ones. Just like you I used to think that looser clothes were more flattering but I've since learned -and experienced first hand- that the exact opposite is true. You will love seeing yourself in more fitted and structured pieces.

You're welcome Sarah. Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions: just start a new thread, you'll get more responses that way (you could always include a link to the older thread for reference purposes if you like).

Thank you both for your replies. I also think I'm appley with a tendency toward inverted triangle.
The links you gave me are great, Inge! I've been searching through the archives (though I'm a little hesitant to resurrect old threads, I may give in because I have questions) and finding so many tips and new ideas!

Welcome to the forum Sassy. Of course there is hope for you! You have a lovely figure.
I'm afraid I'll be confusing you with trying to 'guess your body type' (I'm not good at this), but I see strong shoulders that are about as wide as your hips (is that correct?). So I'm guessing maybe a straightish hourglass with some apple tendencies, or like Anne says, inverted triangle with a bit of adorable apple thrown into the mix...

This isn't helping of course;-) But we will get this figured out. Angie will know for sure (she's on holiday and will be back on the 27th).

You say you'd like to look more modern and preppy, have you had a chance to read these posts about smart casual? They might give you some ideas to start from.

Hi Sassy - I think you look better than you think you do.

There are plenty of women on the forum who have a similar body type to you. I suspect you're a mix between an inverted triangle and an apple - have you read the dress tips for those yet?

Good work on getting the bra!

Hello, everyone. I'm very pleased to have found this website since it seems to have answers to many of my questions.
My name is Sarah. I'm 31. I'm 5'2" and weigh 128lbs. I carry most of that extra weight in my tummy which I have been trying to disguise for years by wearing baggy clothing.
I've just started paying more attention to myself and got fitted for a bra at Nordstroms. I went in wearing a 36D and came out wearing a 34E. Shocking what that did to my sensibilities--- omg, now that the "girls" are hiked up I *do* have a waist! So, I'm trying to retire my baggy sweatshirts, hoodies and yoga pants and get into into well fitting jeans, skirts, and (my personal enemy) tops, blouses, shirts, ugh.
I'm considering going the personal shopper route because just thinking about spending hours in malls and fitting rooms makes me want throw my hands in the air and give up.
I have a wide ribcage, a short waist, skinny legs, and a big tummy. It seems if I can get it to fit around my bustline, the shoulders are around my elbows and the waistline is around my hips. I don't usually have a problem with sleeve length but I always have to hem my jeans.
I have always dressed so casually but I'd like to look more modern and preppy, I suppose. I don't watch Gossip Girl but I've seen photos of how the girls dress and I love it.
I've enjoyed lurking on these forums and looking at what outfits you all are putting together and it makes me think there is hope for me!
So, hello all and here's to changing my ways!!
