Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone.

Susan, Laura & Dani- I also feel a kinship with moms of all boys. Mine are still young (the oldest is almost 9) so we don't have a huge food bill yet, and no holes in the wall either. I'm sure it will come though. I'm really lucky that all 3 of mine get along really well, and the oldest 2 are each other's best friends.

Alecia - isn't it interesting how some things about shopping in different countries are exactly the same, and others are so different. Personally, I blame my fitting woes on my body shape - waist smaller size than hips/thighs, broad shoulders & long arms. I think there are just TOO many shapes a woman's body can come in for manufacturers to cover all the basis, kwim?

Welcome, Christine. I hope you enjoy your time on the forum as much as I have. I'm looking forward to learning a bit more about shopping in Canada. It's interesting to hear about the style trials, frustrations, and successes across time zones and borders.

BLB - I have a few of their tops. Actually, about half my (rather small) wardrobe is from Reitmans. I've got great stuff there on sale, and when the pants fit, it's hard not to look at the tops since they all co-ordinate. My favorite couple of blouses are from Reitmans.

I got a pair of jeans when they were on sale too. My first new jeans in my new size - a pair of dark wash trouser jeans which I love (of course). I usually just shop on the businessy side of the store, but I need to get a pair of more casual jeans soon from the 'other' side. I think I'm starting to sound like a commercial. Oh, and I've never been in the store when the jewelry wasn't BOGO, just to let you know.

Susan - are there a few of us who have all boys? Cool! I'm not a real girly-girl in my style, but I like to have a few flowers & frills sometimes to add some femininity to the house. That, and my girl movies. Pride & Prejudice is on the shelf next to Lord of the Rings at our house.

LOL Christine, I just bought 2 pairs of jeans at Reitmans! They're mid rise wide leg trouser jeans and they are on sale (or were 2 weeks ago at least) for $26 per pair. Both are dark wash but one is more dressy than the other pair. They are the FIRST jeans I've had in years that don't gap at the waist and come up high enough to work with normal-length tops. I love them. I'll try to post a pic with them some time soon. A Reitmans just opened near me and before that I'd always written them off as cheap/boring. Now I think they'll be a staple for me. They always seem to have good sales. I got 2 cute necklaces there on a buy one get one free sale, too. Have you tried any of their tops?

I drove through Lethbridge this year on a roadtrip across Canada. I have a photo of myself sitting on the "Welcome to Lethbridge" sign! It seemed like a really nice town.

Welcome Christine. Sounds like the sewing skills that your mother taught you are coming in handy right now. You are very brave to tear into a pair of pants to fit them to your body. That does take skill. I used to make clothing but haven't for so long I'm afraid to now. When I was a kid I didn't think anything of it. Now I think of all the fit issues and it scares me.
Starting a new job, taking care of a family, and sewing, you are a busy lady.

Thanks everyone for the welcome!

I do wish I could shop in the US more often, but that's the way it goes. We do have some good stores here in Canada. I'm also curious what stores Angie likes up here!

Nicole - my mom taught me to sew when I was in Jr high, and I don't think there's a more useful skill to know. I'm not a wonderful seamstress, but I'm working on it. Also, you don't need to be a great seamstress to make curtains & save tons of money.

BLB - I live in Lethbridge, which is south of Calgary. Have you tried Reitmans for pants? I seem to get the best fit for pants & jeans there. Much less gapping at the waist than other places I've tried.

One of these days I hope to have the time to take & post a picture. Why does life have to be so busy? LOL!

Great BLB, it's nice to have someone that has the same body type. I used to think I was more bottom heavy (and I probably was before I lost weight) but I realize now that's not the case. Oh, and I noticed on another post that you are in Canada - me too! Alberta, actually. Where do you live?

Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a few weeks & decided to just jump in. You guys have fabulous advice & great taste.

A bit about myself. I'm the mom of 3 boys. In the last year my wardrobe requirements have undergone some drastic changes. A year ago I was a SAHM who worked p/t as an accountant, occasionally meeting clients at my home. Then I went back to work full time in a business casual atmosphere (although I try to dress a little nicer, because I like it & because I'm a professional). In the spring I started to loose weight & have now lost 25 pounds, and I am determined to keep it off. So, all the new work clothes I bought when I started working are now too big. Oh, and dh has been out of work & is now working, but not in his field, so he isn't being paid what he's worth. Needless to say, money is tight, and I'm glad I can sew.

I've been updating my wardrobe by making use of my sewing skills to take in pants, and sew clothing. I really enjoy sewing, but it definitely takes time.

I am an hourglass with a prominent shoulder line, I believe. In actuality, my body shape really doesn't fit into any specific category (like many of us). I have hips and a narrow waist, not a large bust, and broad shoulders. Hopefully sometime I'll have time to post some pics for everyone.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all!

Christine
