Ola, your plan sounds perfect to me! Get the cardi in a color that goes with most of your tops so you can get lots of uses out of it. Also get a belt in a bright color, you'll be surprised how much it would change an outfit.

For the jeans, I think that you would wear flare leg well since you're tall. I've always envied girls who can pull them off.

I'm afraid a complete new wardrobe is not in the budget, but I'm hoping to buy a few new things. I was thinking about getting a few well-fitting basics first, like a nice pair of black pants, another pair of dark-wash jeans, and a cardigan. Then I can add tops to the collection, and in the meantime weed out some of the things that don't work from my closet. Does that sound like a good plan?

I've read about having different pant lengths for heels & flats, so I thought that sticking to flats for now may help keep things simple. Any thoughts on boot cut vs. flare leg in jeans?

I'll see about posting some photos for your critique, great idea!

Your measurements sound hourglass to me too. But a photo would make that easier to determine.

Are you looking for any specific pieces, like a cardigan, jacket, jeans, etc, or just everything new? Do you want to update what you currently have in your closet? Do you feel comfortable posting photos of your current outfits? (You don't have to post your face). This would help us (and you) because we could make specific suggestions about what you are currently wearing, and suggest alternatives, or possible alterations you could make to what you already have. I'm not sure, but it sounds like you might be an hourglass, Ola.

I did, but now I'm thinking that maybe I confused smart casual with just regular casual. All this info is a lot to take in at once, my head is spinning a little bit. I'm just trying to look less sloppy and more put-together, you know? A little more fab.

I work at a computer software company, so I spend most of the day sitting at my desk. The office can be a bit chilly too, can't they all? They call the office dress code "business casual" but most people wear jeans on any given day, so I guess it's more like "smart casual". DH and I commute to work each day by train, plus we have some walking to the station and then to the office so I usually wear athletic-type flats.

We have two dogs so we do some walking and hiking on weekends (for this reason I also don't wear much black, lol). But for activities like that I usually change into something a bit more sporty and workout-like. We're mostly home-bodies I suppose, hang out with family (bbq's and that sort of thing), like to travel when we have time. Does that help? Oh, and I'm 28.

Can you give me some names of Euro stores? Ordering clothes online kinda scares me, but I may give it a try if I can't find what I need here.

Welcome Ola!

What’s your lifestyle like?

35 inch inseams are not hard to find if you buy talls on-line. Euro stores usually have longer inseams and sleeve lengths so try those in Canada too.

Hello ladies,

I'm so glad to have found this website - I'm in need of some fashion advice! I'm reading through all the posts/articles and learning a lot, but first, could you help me figure out my body type?

I knew some measurements would be helpful for this, so I attempted to measure myself this morning. I seem to be around 38-31-38, 6' tall and weigh around 165 lbs right now. I didn't work for a few months at the beginning of this year, and sitting at home (and eating too much) does not do good things to my waistline!

Being tall has some challenges, so I'm always on the lookout for long pants (34 inseam is good or almost there depending on the brand/style and I drool when I read about 35-36 inseams - I wish!). Thanks to Angie's tips I'll be continuing my search in this area. BTW, I'm close to Toronto, Ontario, so some of the stores I've seen mentioned aren't up here. But any suggestions/ideas you have on what I should wear are appreciated. Photos are great too, so I can look for similar things in other brands. In the past I've worn too many shapeless clothes in the name of comfort, and I'm hoping to find things that are a little more flattering!

Thanks in advance!
