Thanks so much to everyone for weighing in and my apologies for not returning to the thread earlier ( I have already lost half a reply with the keyboard freezing on me).
Suz - I see your point about footwear extending the line. Part of the reason I didn't wear appropriate footwear is that I wanted to see if this looked alright barefoot - because this is exactly the sort of thing I'd wear at someone's house for a very casual setting where we leave out feet at the door.
Janet - thanks for the encouragement. I'll look out for another pair though I think only if B & M!
Marilyn - thanks
Shiny - maybe I should just wear them as gear to my body balance class! Actually I am not sure they are comfy enough. I am thinking of buying a new hoodie this winter
I don't think that pink top would work tucked into these leggings but the other suggestions are good. I'll try them out with some if I buy some
Angie - I can't really remember how it felt - so hard to tell in this heat
Alasse - thanks
Thanks for all of you who asked after my girls. The 2 who had it are very much on the mend and should be ok for the start of school on Monday. The one who didn't get it is a bit of a mystery! Maybe her batch of vaccine was better? Or she could be going to get it next week!

I'd agree, not this version of skirted leggings. One with more stretch, perhaps.

Anne, I'm a yay for skirted leggings - after all - I created an Ensemble around them.

I find the skirt part awfully snug and short on this rendition. Does it creep up when you walk?

Hope your girls feel better soon. xo

I don't think the skirt is too snug (you can totally pull it off) but I think I'd prefer if the skirt was just a little longer. This has nothing to do with age or your shape -- as it is, this length just reads more "gear" to me. You could totally just go with that and skip the fashion top --- try with a hoodie or sweatshirt or exercise top? I could totally see this as a "don't mind me, I just came from yoga class" look!

Otherwise, try with the pink top tucked in. Can it tuck, leaving the drapey front part out? I want to bring the vertical line up to your waist - I think the proportions would look better. That's what I've learned with my own skirted leggings - I actually prefer with a top tucked in. Alternatively, try a column of color -- a black tee -- with a long cardigan in contrasting color & worn open. The top in pic 4 does this, I just wish that the top was longer and/or looser.

Since you have a strong shoulder line, do you have any boxy tops? I think boxy tops work well with these.

Agree with Suz that booties would extend the line.

And try also with a third piece - a jean jacket?

That pink top is gorgeous. You are so pretty in pink!

Hey Anne, welcome to the great skirted leggings debate! I totally agree with all of Suz's post. You could wear skirted leggings just fine, I just think this particular pair isn't doing much for you -- they seem too small, and I think it's a brilliant solution to offer them to your daughter.

Anne, it's exactly like NAS. Hot, sticky mess doing autumn try-ons!

Well, I admire you for giving these a go (and I'm sure your DD will enjoy them.)

I think you actually COULD look great in this look. There are a couple of differences between the ones I tried and the ways I styled them, and these ones.

First, as Debs has noted, these ones seem less stretchy and forgiving, so the skirt is (even more) body con than the one I tried!

Second, it really helped me to extend the leg line with footwear and if you did that I think you'd get a similar look to mine. If you notice, I was wearing ink blue booties (with pointed toe for further extension), and black boots (with a small heel) or black booties (ditto). I also tried a pair of flat black boots. All of these kept the eye from breaking up at the ankle.

I know you were just doing a tryon and it was hot but I suspect you'd have got a clearer picture of how flattering this look could be on you if you'd had the right shoes/ tops. The other tops (apart from 2) are probably not loose enough to create the effect you would be after.

I hope the kids are doing better! Chicken pox is no fun at any age.

Sharan, yes it must be like the NAS.
Deborah - thanks again for your generosity with these. I am sorry they aren't working out.
Dimity - I'm in WA actually (was just visiting Vic last week). We have one more week of school holidays here - but yes it is pretty hot. High 30's at least, and no effective AC though we do have fans.
I might be joining you on just not wearing leggings, but if I don't I am going to have to find some more tops that I can wear with them. A few years ago I went in for fairly fitted tunic length jumpers or shortish dresses, but both these are staring to look dated and are wearing out anyway.

Sorry to hear about the chicken pox, and I hope they feel better soon. It's such an uncomfortable thing to have, especially in the heat. And school is starting here tomorrow (don't know if it's the same in Victoria.)

I wondered if a long (knee length) cardigan over a column of black might work? Perhaps not with these particular ones if they aren't the right size, but maybe with other leggings. However, I tried on leggings (not skirted ones, just ordinary $8 Target ones) the other day and they just aren't me, so I'm going to join Suz slinking away from the stretchy fabric.

Anne I just saw this post! Believe me these look much better on you than they did me. I think the mistake I made was not checking the fabric content. They are cotton with not stretch element to them. I think they need to be not so fitted on the leg. Hope you DD enjoys them I am still on the lookout!!

Anne, it's good you had a go with them. I think these tops will work if you find a pair that have a little more length in the skirt and a more relaxed skirt fit. I love that pink drapey top!
I appreciate your comment about the sacrifice of trying on leggings in summer heat. Aack! I feel that way during Nordstrom Anniversary Sale here, when I'm buying cashmere and the like in the middle of summer.
Hope you are all better soon!

Thanks Rachylou. I don't think they are hobbling (only wore them for a few minutes) but I do have problems with the bodycon thing!
Oh and thanks for all the concern re my daughters. They are having fairly mild doses, as they have been vaccinated. DD11 was the worse, and we didn't realise what it was, thinking it was the after effects of mozzie bites and doing an overnight hike in 110 weather, but she hasn't got a huge number of spots. DH thinks he has a few spots too (never had them, just the immunisation)
We are staying home for the sake of others !

So... I like you in skirted leggings, and I like them with the sweater best. But I have to say, I appreciate pic #1 and seeing the whole skirt. I don't think I like these skirted leggings. I don't love the bodycon nature of the skirt. It looks hobbling...

Suz we were writing at the same time!!
As you know I thought you looked great in yours, and that somehow gave me hope that I would be able to carry it off, as we are the same height and do have some similarities (apart from your being 10+ pounds lighter of course, which helps, and not being quite so long torsoed, which all my pics really emphasize and the fact that yours was undoubtedly a much higher quality!)

Ok - too tight. Not a surprise at all. As Deborah said, they were made for Korean girls!! I'll see (at her suggestion) if my DD11 wants them.

I know the second top is nice. It is only long at the front and that limits what I can wear it with (usually a tube skirt or white clams, unless I just tuck it into a skirt).

The third jumper came out of the holding zone as I have never liked it much but thought maybe this would redeem it.
I guess I'll keep a look out for this style in case I see one with a loose skirt somewhere but I really am not wrapped on how I look in leggings at the moment. I really do not have the legs and proportions to look any good in them.
And yet, and yet, the chances are extremely high that I will end up wearing leggings in the winter because I love the feel and ease of them so much!

I have been reading the debate on this keenly and those of you who are really keeping up with things might have remembered that Deborah was going to very kindly give me hers when we met up in Melbourne.

Now I am at home, and it is a public holiday and I am stuck at home because 2 kids have chicken pox I have time to try it on. It is really too hot to wear leggings here but I made the sacrifice for a few minutes to be more au courant with the forum debate!

The first pic is just an attempt to show you the skirt element, which is actually difficult to see in the other pictures

The three items I chose to pair the skirted legging are specifically ones that are too short to be worn with leggings.

I have to say that I do not think any of these look particularly good on me - but the same could be said of leggings in general and the fact is that I'll probably keep on wearing them for casual wear.

Love to hear the comments - My feelings aren't easily hurt so no need to hold back!!
