Shevia, that’s exactly how I test! There seem to be a lot of INTJs here. That’s odd, because they are supposedly rare.
Cat2, I didn’t make that connection about “cheery extrovert”. I think a lot of extroverts have a hard time catching on that introverts can be entirely cheery too, without the need to show everybody. Susan Cane’s an author great about sticking up for introverts in an extroverted world. You might enjoy her ted talks.

FI: Not really, we have the privilege of a lot of inherited pieces, so at any one time one relative’s pewter is coexisting with bits of another relative’s oriental period. We add in rugs woven by a modern design house that is eco and labor friendly, wood case goods from a couple of small US woodworkers, and a lot of leather seating you can actually sit in/sleep on.

OMG, can’t imagine having a style foisted onto me, especially one I’d have to live with daily! The house project was just for fun—no plans to build it. We’ve spoken twice in the past year. He checks off all the boxes—good father, good earner, has a cool hobby, was good at “marital relations”, loves (& I think supports) his aging mother, is in good shape physically—but man, is it a good thing we aren’t together! He’s the one who lectured me once on being disrespectful because I wore something sloppy for a grocery run. Not the guy for me! Did you wind up with a recognizable “style” for the rest of your house?

The house story really resonates — we are in HCOL area and so having a house at all is a privilege. Anyhow, twice we have redone aging bits of one of our houses. The functional requirements were easy to convey to our designer and the largely functional kitchen and bath designs worked. Our one attempt at having them do interior design was a complete fail because the designer wanted to do everything in a modern luxe style she thought we should have. We ended up DIYing the interiors because we aren’t about adopting someone else’s style.

I’m also INTJ and can relate to having a sarcastic sense of humor, but not wanting to display it, or political leanings, on a shirt.

I’m also completely with you on nothing uncomfortable and form following function. I recall the time I dated an architect; I wasn’t ready to build a house, but he said he’d draft one for me. It failed utterly. His first question was the style of the facade: Tudor or modern or colonial or whatever. I. Had. No. Idea. I wanted to start by discussing the various rooms and what would happen in each of them, eventually building to the whole house. He couldn’t begin without the form, and I couldn’t imagine it without function.

Jules, I completely understand! There is a lot of political dressing in my area that is performative, to make clear that the wearer is liberal, and while I am a life long supporter of human rights, I literally cannot wear my heart on my sleeve.

I can definitely identify with your level of organization! I keep rolling lists, of what I need and what I don’t, of brands that fit and have good quality pieces and brands that don’t. This blog has gotten me to generate new lists, figuring out my palette and looking at color capsules as additional filters to make the end result of shopping more pleasing. I like colors, but not intense versions of them, and my colored pieces are mostly solid or with subtle texture or pattern or trim. I also like the texture in alligator, snake, etc., real leather, and patterns that remind me of nature. One of my favorite silk tops had a pattern like a geode slice. And I like the organized patterns in some silk scarves. And for jewelry, real metal and stones. I got a comment from another contributor that what I had described wasn’t a cognizable style, but I don’t think that’s right, I don’t think you have to look like a fashion archetype or caricature to have style.

I don’t know my M-B type but had a bit of an a-ha moment re: your tee shirt comment - I have a political tee shirt designed by an artist (it’s graphic and interesting, but with a message) and I don’t really wear it and have wondered why. The one time I did I ended up in conversation with a stranger who appreciated it - and the conversation was not even unwanted given human connection has been lacking in quarantimes - but I think I am also quite private, and thus don’t necessarily want my values on display in that way. Hmmmmm!

Interesting. As a fellow INTJ I relate with much that you say. I think in me it manifests most clearly in my love of wardrobe planning and analyzing my esthetic preferences and 'what works'. Also in my dislike of 'loud' or non-functional pieces. I do like some patterns and (minimal) pattern mixing. I have thought it's the extroverted sensing that's last in my stack showing. (I am most familiar with the car model by personality hacker and imagine my creative needs as a toddler who takes short, intense and superficial pleasure in playing with shape/color).

You have a clear sense of what you like and don’t. You are lucky to have been taught about garments and construction when you were young. I, too, cannot stand anything itchy. Unfortunately that rules out many options.

I aligned with a lot of what Angie said until she got to Personality. I am INTJ. I have a very organized closet that lets me reflect quiet competence at work and lets me get ready for the weekend or events with minimal fuss. I get rid of anything too flashy, or that draws too much attention. I evaluate pieces for function first, not fashion, and keep everything that has a function in my wardrobe. My mother taught me a lot about fabrics and the proper construction of garments and that has served me well in finding pieces that will last. I have a sarcastic sense of humor, but would never put it on a T-shirt as I am too private. I also don’t do twee; I have a No Sheep rule for my pyjamas. I also have sensory limitations and won’t buy certain fabrics and will get rid of anything itchy, that rustles or makes noise. I will buy geometric patterns and some organized florals but can’t handle most plaids or busy patterns and pattern mixing is unthinkable.
