No sorry Suz I meant Ottawa.

One of the stores I was thinking of is LIlac Lingerie but their band size starts at 30 and it appears their cup sizes only go up to about a C with the small band size.

Sorry, the person I heard about it from was mistaken apparently.

I am a 30GG (UK) which I think is a 30J in US sizing. Finding anything in a normal bricks & mortar store is pretty much pointless.

There is one specialty store in my town that stocks my size but their prices are prohibitive. I use them to check my sizing, find a branf that works & then buy online. (I do buy something from them when I use their fitting people etc.)

I can get a bra & matching bottom online for half the price of just the bra in store. I prefer to support local business but they need to support me too.

I am in Winnipeg and we have at least four specialty stores that carry small band sizes. At least down to 30 but a few also have 28s. Some bras fit smaller than others too. If you check the yellow pages or google for lingerie stores in your city, I suspect you will find a few. Just look for ones that carry lejaby, prima donna, freya, fantasie, panache, etc. Those are the brands many of the better shops carry.

Most of the experts suggest a snug fit on the loosest hook and say you will move to the next hook every 3-4 months as the elastic starts to wear out. A year is the max life for most bras unless you have a lot for rotation.

I usually have too many but wear the same 3 or 4 most of the time.

You mean in Toronto, Freckles? The MEC on King Street? I can look on my next visit, for sure! Thank you!

And thanks, Mo, too, for commiseration! It is true, it doesn't need to be an engineering marvel to hold them up. But even after that first (perhaps not ideal) fitting, I was stunned at what a difference one that fits even approximately can make! And also, the difference in comfort was huge!

Suz there's a store down by Mec that has tiny sizes but for the life of me I can't think of the name right off the bat. It is not an intimacy shop but from all accounts is fabulous. There is another intimacy store, where I bought my one good bra, down the street from there and I will check re sizing and get back to you.

Suz, Nordstrom carries a few 30 bras, but I think 30C is the smallest by a quick check of their website. I share your frustration in just wanting to be able to try one on in the proper size.
The other option is to order 3 or 4 in varying sister sizes from Herroom or Bare Necessities and be prepared to return the rest. I haven't done this, as the BF would likely flip at a several hundred dollar bra order. Not to mention, I'm a bit smaller, like you and don't need an engineering marvel to hold up my modest rack lol.
I have been using eBay sellers with mixed results. Now I only use those with return policies since having to give away several 'almost' bras over the year.
Good luck in your search. Mine has been going on for a few years now really. Sigh.

Thanks, Di. I'm in Canada, so the duty and taxes for online ordering (especially if you know you're going to return) get really prohibitive. But I may indeed have to go this route. The few online Canadian stores I've discovered did not stock these sizes, either.

Maybe another option would be to see if my local specialty shops would order in for me, and return if I did not buy. After all, I'd be buying SOMEthing from them; just maybe not this or that particular bra. I can check!

Suz, I have yet to see a bricks-and-mortar store with those sizes. My suggestion is to order a bunch from something like herroom.com, and see how that goes. (That's what I'm trying next.)

I'm finding this extremely interesting; thank you for posting the...ahem...details of measurements!

I was measured in the spring for new bras (and high time, after losing over 30 pounds!). I spent a pile of money in the store and for the most part I felt it was well worth it, although I find that I wear one of the bras far more often than the others, both because it is more comfortable and more practical.

Having said that, I wonder now if it really IS the right size...or was it simply the closest thing they had to something in my size? Certainly, these are about 300% better than what I was wearing before. But I notice that I am now using the tightest hooks on them.

My rib cage also measures 28. If I measure above the breasts, under the armpits (as other sites recommend) the measurement is 30. Across the bust is 32. So I am quite small. WIthout actually measuring—just by a process of trying on and trying on and trying on, they ended up putting me in 32As. And indeed, if I follow some fitting instructions that is the "correct size." But maybe I would have done better in the size 30 or even 28, with a different cup size?

Anyone have suggestions for places where you can actually try those sizes on?

A friend of mine opened a lingerie store in NC a few weeks ago. The store is called the Sophisticated Pair and the owner is named Erica. They are also doing online sale and I am sure if you e-mail her, she will order whatever you need. She is specializing in the larger cup sizes for those of us with small bands. I wear a 30F and also have a 28" rib cage and 35" chest. She just ordered a Freya Deco for me in charcoal.

What I meant was that I had bought 30's and 32's from them that were altered down to 28's, and I preferred those to the 28's I bought online. Sorry for not being clear.

I assume what she meant was that 28's are not available in brick and mortar stores. Most places start at a 32 or even a 34. The intimacy near me started carrying 30's recently so there is a good chance they might start stocking 28's as well.

But what I like about their ability to alter things is the fact that I have so many more options now. A lot of fabulous bras are only available in 32's and larger, and Intimacy makes those options available to me. While 28's are available online, the amount of styles to choose from is still very limited. So there is some benefit

So sorry to hear that this visit was not as successful as expected.

When I went to an intimacy store last year for a new bra and spent close to $300 for one bra and a bottle of woolite type stuff I was shocked! They also showed me panties, not the least bit interesting for $80 that I left behind. Since the bra was cherry coloured I thought yes matching panties, not at that price for ugly matching ones!!!

You and I are about the same size. I have bought 28FF's online as well as from Intimacy, and overall I am much happier with the ones I bought from Intimacy. They stay in my wardrobe while the ones I buy online tend to wear out faster or get shipped back.

I also find that having someone else fit me gives me a better idea of what shapes, styles, and details will actually be flattering. Yes it's expensive, but they'll last you forever because you can always have the band altered down further for free.

At the mention of Hef- playboy bras run really small in the band (but not the cup). My little sister (30DD) loves them and I've found them to last really well (I wear a 30C but a 28 would be best- playboy 30s are snuggest and best fitting of the bras I own) and thought they might be an option for the 28 inch band girls

Hm. Well, maybe when my current bras wear out, I'll go to the fancy lingerie store on Granville and get measured properly. I've been meaning to do it. It's possible that I could fit a 30DD. I have a few friends who spend upwards of $150 on a good bra, but they swear it's the best thing they ever did! (Spending that much on a bra still makes me cringe, though...)

@Elisabeth, I'm wearing a 32C+ because it's all I can find right now . . . but even the fitting gal at Nordstrom said instantly I should be in a 30. And as Maya can attest, they often don't go down enough in band at dept. stores so that means I likely should be in a 28.

What the hell! I just measured my own ribcage and bust, just for the fun of it, and I'm 28.5" and 34". That's pretty close to your measurements, but I wear a 32D bra -- and I swear it fits perfectly. Lies flat, straps stay in place, no gapping in the cups, no riding up the back. How is it possible that you're a 28G?

Bra sizing makes no sense to me.

Elly: I think that ordering-planning-to-return-some strategy is going to be what I go with henceforth. Sounds like you've got a good system going.

And Mo-- I clearly misunderstood, so now I'm really laughing! Anyway, hoping that common measurements helps you out!

elisabeth: they're NOT cute-- they just match the bra! But you're absolutely right about having the right size.

And Mo, I thought a pic would make this size seem less... um... overwhelming. This is what a 28G looks like.

Di, mostly my curiousity is that those are my measurements - and I ASSURE you I would not be a featured guest at Hef's playground lol!! Anyway, thanks for answering

Had a similar bad experience with bras and specialty shops lately. I ordered 4 sizes of one bra online since I live a LONG way from civilization. I got a great deal, otherwise I would have ordered from an online friend's shop (saved me about 50 dollars). Initially I felt bad not ordering from her, since she had helped me figure out my size more or less but she was very understanding. With her help I narrowed the bra down to one or two cup sizes and a band size, but this particular bra had mixed reviews on how it ran and the shop I ordered from suggested ordering both my regular size and a band size smaller. So-- I ordered 4 bras with the realization that I would have to pay to ship whichever ones I didn't keep back. Five days after I place my order I find out that they haven't been shipped yet and that the company is going to charge me a 20% restocking fee if I don't cancel 3 of them! Let me tell you-- I was angry. This bra better get here quick. If it doesn't fit, now I have to pay return shipping (possibly multiple times) and wait another couple weeks to try again.

Oh, and you can totally buy 28 G's online in the US. I've been happy with Herroom orders in the past and they sell plenty of 28 G's from brands like Freya and Pananche (euro and UK companies).

Are they pretty undies, at least? :-)

Well, that won't be the last bra you buy, and at least now you know your proper size.
