Laura - it's a pencil skirt with a jacket and the jacket is a gray/white/black tweedy knit. I'm glad you don't think it looks matronly! Thanks for the nice compliment Nicole.

The outfit absolutely does not look matronly at all (how could it, with those fabulous shoes?). I love the shape of it on you!

Is it a dress with a jacket? And is the color eggplant?

Sorry for the silly questions but I am trying to make out the details in the photo.

Here's what I got shopping at AT - does it look matronly? I also tried it with some boots but no pic for that...sorry about the bad picture quality - trying to get my camera set up right.

Hi Juli,

You're smart to get some interview attire in place. Considering the fluctation in your weather conditions, it would be a good idea to have something ready for both snowy cold days as well as more mild ones. When I was interviewing I relied on my old work wardrobe for the most part, but added a few things that were missing.

Since I was interviewing in the warmer months, I found myself without any stockings or closed toe shoes. I regularly went hoseless at my old my job so all of my summer shoes were open toed. I also added a few conservative cardigans because knits are easier to fit than fitted jackets.

Being able to throw together an interview outfit on a day's notice was crucial to me. It was one less thing to have to wory about.

I tried on the suit in the link but the jacket just didn't work (loved the skirt though!) I ended up getting a black pencil skirt and a black knit jacket. I will post a pic as soon as I can. I liked the look and I was able to get an extra 20% off so it really was a deal!

Hi Juli

I think the skirt can work with both the jacket or a belted cardigan. Did you find anything you like during your shopping trip yesterday?

LOVE the suit! Did it work when you tried it on? If you wear a bright knit top, like the picture, it makes it less formal. I think a black belted cardigan would work nicely too. If you pair it with pearls it would make it more formal.

Good luck with the interviews!

Pretty suit and I too can see you in it, Julie.

I prefer the idea of the jacket better than the belted cardigan. I guess I’m a sucker for suits

I agree with Marianne, I think that look would be great with a belted sweater. Maybe something like this?

I can absolutely picture you in this look, except I am not sure if this particular jacket would work (I defer this to the experts). But I think it would be lovely with a belted sweater as you're describing.

Good luck in advance! Hopefully things will pick up in January.

Now that Christmas is over (sigh) I figure I need to start thinking about January and the possibility that I may have some interviews coming up. Since there are so many sales, perhaps I should start shopping now. I'm trying to keep it professional but not too conservative as Seattle is a very very casual place and most likely my interviews will be in the tech sector.

What do you think about this outfit?

http://www.anntaylor.com/catal.....2&

I don't necessarily want a matching jacket and skirt but am thinking of something along these lines with a pencil skirt and perhaps a soft belted sweater jacket. Would that work on a short pear such as myself? :-)

Thanks for your help!
