Jussie, the advantage is just that it doesn't come untucked when I raise my arms or sit. No blousing around the waist. They also make a cotton version but it didn't fit me as well.

The snaps on the bodysuit are thin and unobtrusive but I did find it just a touch uncomfortable with my tight jeans.

Sounds as if you are doing really well. I appreciate this report and your reviews of the items. Especially interested in the J. Crew bodysuit. I wish it came in navy.

Good luck with these interviews -- this is a LOT, which shows they know you have something great to offer! Crossing fingers for you.

Ha! My postdoc advisor founded a fairly prominent journal publisher and it had its board meeting at a country club one year. He showed up in his usual science journal t-shirt, running shorts, and sneakers. The country club had a dress code so he posted hilarious photos of himself wearing the loaner jacket and tie they forced on him at the door. (You would think that the people organizing the board meeting would have thought of this and held it elsewhere...)

Even for dinners out with speakers, I'll just wear my best designer jeans and nice shoes - dressier than my colleagues, because I still come across as younger than I am and I want them to take me seriously. But that's in the Bay Area where no one needs to dress up for anything.

I like wearing nice clothes though, so I'll be sure to make reasons wear them. And two of my interviews are at New England med schools -- if I get one of those jobs there might be more need to dress up occasionally.

Best of luck with all your interviews! Can't wait to find out where you land. And, I'm sure the clothes will come in handy again- if not in the lab, then when institutional advancement wants you to meet with donors, or present to the board of trustees, or for dinner with invited speakers. When I was in grad school (late 90s), there was a bit of hilarity on our floor when a junior faculty member realized that his "dress" clothes consisted of black jeans and a rumpled button down, which the more senior faculty had informed him would not work for dinner at the Canlis in Seattle- which then, and now, has a suggested dress code.

Lisa, I'm interviewing for faculty jobs at research universities. It's a long process - apply in the fall, interview late winter. If I'm lucky I'll know the outcome by spring. Most interviews are two days and I have six this month so lots of clothes needed!

Re: the wine stain, I've had luck getting old stains of unknown provenance out using Stain Solution from The Laundress (I'll add a Find when I'm at the computer). No guarantees, but it's very gentle (I've used it on silk), so maybe worth a spot-treat.

This is fascinating. First question - what are you interviewing for? I've forgotten , if I ever knew, what it is you do. I thought you were an academic, or did I make that up? I want all of your clothes, and don't know how you can stand it with the constant travelling . You have my sympathy. I am not fond of business travel and glad I do a lot less of it than I used to. By the end of the week, I'm ready to set fire to my luggage and everything in it. And occasionally myself.

Anyways , interesting to hear about your Everlane pants. I went to check them out upon your recommendation, and I have yet to find a pair of trousers that don't gape at the pocket and pull at the slider tab - even if they are too big.

Very interesting. Is your travel outfit all black solids? I have one, one, travel outfit that I could live in: a faded polka dot skirt and pink tee. Only problem is it doesn’t do for cold or nice restaurants... definitely not for interviews(!)

I'm sad that I've had no time to read and comment on all your 30x30 and thoughtful year-end / year-beginning posts.

I'm halfway through my month of interviews -- on a plane to Chicago right now. I don't know that my future wardrobe will ever need all this business wear but at least I like everything I've bought!

Assorted thoughts and things I've learned:

I'm sooo bored with my travel outfit! Same each time I fly: boyfriend jeans, Dr Martens, and a plain black tee. It's practical and reduces decision fatigue but I'm counting the days until February when I'll try to wear different shoes each day of the month!

A good steaming lets me wear silk shirts more than once, especially if I've worn an undershirt.

I am a pro at neatly folding silk shirts with tissue paper. Hang them near the shower or a quick pass of my mini steamer and they're good to go.

The packing cubes my brother gave me are amazing for keeping shirts and trousers from getting crushed.

In keeping with Angie's blog post - all black is hard with wool slacks instead of jeans. Too flat. I'm glad I found a white silk shirt. And for black outfits, different textures and layers save it.

I wish I owned two more duplicates of my favorite Uniqlo IDLF silk shirt!

I really wish I had time to get things cleaned between trips.

And I wish the weather were a touch warmer since I have some great short-sleeve tops as well.

I am incredibly indecisive (oh, you noticed?) and most trips I've just thrown three shirts, three pants, and two blazers into my suitcase and deciding on two outfits once I arrive. Good thing my clothes are small.

My boyfriend got me a gorgeous Rimowa carry-on last year. It's the cheaper, lightweight (read flimsy) end of their line but the green color makes me happy every time I use it and it rolls so easily.

I am stress-shopping (justified by the search for a HEWI tweed blazer) and I need to stop. At least these purchases are all great.

The final test will be my combined trip at the end of the month: a full week, New Haven and then Boston. Four days of interviews, and no way to clean anything in between. Plus, I'm adding two days in NYC ahead of time, to relax and adjust to the time zone. I'd love to have more interesting clothes for that than my default travel outfit but packing space will be tight.

Assessment of new purchases:

J Crew silk bodysuit -- game changer. Buy this shirt. Fits beautifully with perfect drape, has stretch, stays tucked in! I prefer untucked shirts with most outfits, but it's great with jeans and a blazer. Considering wearing it alone with slacks for the second day of this week's interview.

Equipment white silk shirt with stars -- cute and fun, works well under a blazer. Bought used and I discovered a tiny wine stain on the arm, alas, but it's ok.

Everlane bold stripe relaxed silk shirt -- still unworn. I think this is more of a casual look with jeans for me.

J Crew Collection Minnie pants in Italian wool -- perfect. Flattering, versatile. Not really a new purchase -- I duplicated an old pair with a larger size off Poshmark. The waist is low by current standards so they're best under longer tops.

Everlane slim wool pants -- these pants are really great. A little boring, but the cut is excellent and they're a thicker wool than most suit pants. Pockets gape and the fastener at the front pulls -- on the model online, not just on me -- so I'll see if my tailor can do something.

Helmut Lang cropped blazer -- I bought this a few months ago and worried I'd never wear it, but I love it. The cropped length is great on my short frame. Must be worn with a long, untucked shirt or else I look like a waiter.

Dries van Noten navy pinstripe wool pants -- to be determined! I bought them yesterday at a consignment store and I hope I don't regret it. Gorgeous wool, flattering, but a bit tight in the thighs when I sit.

An old black silk shirt, pointed flat boots, and a long, tropical-weight wool blazer are also getting a lot of use. I collected all my interview-appropriate clothes on this Pinterest board to help brainstorm. Many of these weren't quite right for the setting but I guess I have a lot of options now!
https://www.pinterest.com/mono.....iew-armor/
