Hmm, interesting. The whole branding/labeling thing is a bit of a racket I guess. Who is actually designing these clothes? The GIII company is a pretty large umbrella, would be hard to avoid them all if I wanted to.

Shows the nonsense about branding doesn't it! I guess something has yoherone with the stock so I support rebranding or whatever makes it sell- or be used rather than go to landfill.

I believe Ivanka clothing is doing well in China. Your name can be your biggest asset or your biggest liability can't it?

You know, I've seen in the past what appeared to be the identical item from two different brands, and always thought it was because they were made in the same factory for different labels. But now I'm wondering if it was actually a case of relabeling for whatever reason.

so, this piqued my interest, and i did some goggling....and here's what confuses me....it doesn't look like G-III, the company that owns the IT license owns the Adrienne Vittadini label. the AV label appears to be owns by a private company called ASG-SLG (which also outs Judith Leiber bags)

BTW if you are interested, i've attached a link to the other brands that G-III does own

I didn't realize that changing labels on merchandise was a common practice, and considering that "designers" are really all too often really just "licensers" (being allowed to put their name on something someone else designed), I'm not surprised. They are trying to get some revenue out of a line that saw flat sales by rebranding. I guess I can't blame them. I am not attracted to any of what I see from either of those labels, anyway.

Maybe they should be more careful who they do business with. I don't feel sorry for merchants when a certain clothing line doesn't sell. It's a calculated risk they take.

not suprised, since most department stores didn't announce that they were dropping the line until spring, and the spring orders would have been written 6-9 months before, the majority of the spring goods would have already been produced...so something had to be done with the clothes. they could therefore, either destroy the clothes (and then get deal with the blow back of all that "stuff" going to landfills), send it to 3rd world/developing countrys (and then deal with the blow back of "dumping" on these countrys and cutting into the economies of these countries) or changing the labels (and dealing with the blow back of that)....so what to do?

Well, what little of her stuff I've seen is so bland and boring and referential (if not downright copycat) that it could easily be passed off as another label.

i don't know who carried the IT line in Canada, but these days 'Winners' has racks of the stuff, whereas 6 months ago it wasn't in-store. I've wondered if discounters would be tempted to cut the label?

I'm reading conflicting sources that this was done with and without the approval of the original designer.
