The Nordstrom Rack near me rearranged and now I can't find anything! I was used to associating certain brands with "savvy" or whatever. Of course, I also hate Gmail's new look, so maybe I am just getting old and cranky.

Oh wow, that will be a chance - and hopefully a good one! The names and divisions between different departments have always perplexed me. I still really don't know how to shop Macy's (I have my own beef with Macys that prevents me from really wanting to learn how to shop there) and for years my mom and I couldn't figure out the departments in Nordstrom. (Now we're more or less comfortable in "our" departments.) I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Yes, I agree--I love Nordstrom but hate their department names! What the heck is TBD? Who is Savvy and Point of View supposed to appeal to? Why is the junior section called Brass Plum? Makes no sense to me!

And yes, Rae! More mirrors please!

Oh, Rae, now you've got me started! What is it with the disappearing mirrors? They've pretty much all vanished from department stores and boutiques. Sometimes all I want is to hold a top or scarf up to my face to see what the color looks like on me, or as Rae said, slip a jacket on, but there are no mirrors! Seems to me that more mirrors would translate to more sales.

I hope part of this shift involves putting up more mirrors in the clothing departments. Nothing irritates me faster than having to trek across the sales floor - or worse, all the way into a fitting room - just to pop on a blazer over my top and see how it looks in the mirror.

Anna, one of the Nordstrom test drive stores is at Alderwood Mall. If you are curious about the re-design, you could check it out. I've been there a few times since they did the big remodel, and it seems like an improvement to me. You can find just about all of the options in the store for a particular item (jeans, blouses, etc) in the same place...with a few exceptions.

I, for one, would be glad to see Nordie's rename its departments as mentioned in this article. Titles like Point of View, T.B.D., etc. don't mean a whole lot by themselves.

That is verrrry interesting. One of the reasons I avoid large department stores is that I get so overwhelmed with all of the "departments within the departments" of Juniors, Misses and Petites. Since I'm not familiar with all of them, I'm constantly wondering, "Is this department for me, someone my age, someone my size?" The idea of scaling down to just a few, with self-explanatory names really appeals to me. And I had no idea that women had been on an "accessory binge" since the late 1990's. Things that make ya go "hmmmmm".

They were redoing the Stanford Nordstrom the last time I was there--6 or 7 weeks ago. I wondered what the the ultimate plan was. The Valley Fair store is the same as ever, although lately they seem to have less and less stock in women's clothing. (Stanford is larger than VF and has a lot more stock. For serious shopping I go to Stanford.)

Nordstroms at Stanford Shopping Center is in the middle of a major re-model on the second floor/women's department; will have to check it out in a few weeks and see if they have reorganized the departments.

I've thought for years that the stores and manufacturers must have been taking a major hit in the last ten to fifteen years as people stopped dressing up for work, let alone the rest of their lives.
