Chrizzle, that's an excellent idea! I know a responsible seamstress should always test out any pattern she's going to try, but I really like the idea of testing it out as an addition to my closet, too. I'll have to give it a shot!

biscuitsmom, thanks for the code! I think I'm going to tackle sewing my own, but if it goes on sale before I manage that, I might be tempted. It's my Most Horrible Work Season, and Husband does tell me that I deserve a reward.

Could you try making it with a less expensive fabric first to see whether the general idea works for you? I love maxi skirts and I love the way Allie wore that particular one, but I think I would have a hard time making that color and cut work with my body type and my existing wardrobe. But it's hard to know without trying it first.

I am (irrationally?) smitten with this ballet maxi skirt from Ann Taylor. At $178 in polyester, I don't think I would buy THIS one, but I'm convinced that I could sew a duplicate in silk for less than half the cost.

Putting aside cost and contemplating it just as a garment, would something like this be a good addition to my closet?

http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/p.....Color=5643

Some arguments for: My life and work let me dress as casual or fancy as I like. I wear a lot of skirts and need more neutral and summer-appropriate ones. I've been looking for a way to wear slim-fit tees without merely resorting to jeans. It's a beautiful silhouette, and I've loved it on the bloggers I'e seen wearing it, like Allie of Wardrobe Oxygen: http://www.wardrobeoxygen.com/.....milar.html

Some arguments against: I'm trying to move away from young and whimsical and add some more sophisticated pieces with cleaner lines: this might be out in wacky-land. I tend to stick to knee-length skirts. I'm short and decidedly pear-shaped. I'm still in the process of solidifying my style goals.

What do you think? Would it be a worthwhile project or just an exercise in maxing closet orphans?
