Hope you make a full recovery and feel more like yourself soon, doggeh lover. Sending healing thoughts, strength, and good wishes.

I echo Sal. How about half elastic, and fully elastic pull on pants instead of jeans? They are a lot easier to slip on and off, and will keep you extra comfy during the day. A petite or short length might be just right for 5ft 4 and flats.

And when Summer arrives - may I suggest easy pull on dresses like Lisa.

Here to help you find whatever you need! Shout if you need guidance :)

I cannot answer your question but I was also thinking what Sal has said. Jeans are not the most practical thing to take on and off - would you consider leggins or soft pants with an elastic band?
I am sorry to hear about your health issues. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I’ve heard from people who do tailoring that it’s pretty common for folks to take a shorter inseam as they get older, even without scoliosis.

Another way besides raw hems would be a fusible seam tape, which can bond fabrics together with no sewing. It does require a hot iron to activate the glue. One product available in the U.S. is called Steam-a-Seam.

Sorry for your health issues. I wish you speedy recovery with your leg.

I'm not aware of scoliosis affecting a spine, so I am no help there.

I wear many of my jeans with a raw hem, it's in style and since i"m short it helps me avoid having to run to the tailor (which is not local for me) when I need something shortened.

I'm not a skirt or dress gal, but years ago when I had foot surgery I could not pull fabric over my foot (it was too swollen and too tender for months to do that). I ended up wearing a lot of full a-line skirts and dresses because they were easy to put on and kept the fabric off my foot while I was healing.

Oh I’m so sorry for your struggles!!

I don’t think your inseam will change, because the scoliosis is affecting your spine. Your torso is getting shorter, but not your legs. Same has happened to me the past few years due to scoliosis and osteoporosis as well. I feel your struggles. I live mostly in sweatpants and joggers right now while healing from back surgery.

I do hope your follow up with the surgeon is successful.

Thanks, Sal! Appreciate the idea and your kind words. I do like raw hem look, so I'll give that a try. Luckily not all dirt roads stuff, but I'm having a mini-meltdown, coming from a city of 250K...

That sounds like a very tough time. Sad to hear about those health issues.

I wonder if jeans will be the best if you have restricted mobility as they are a bit hard to get on and off. But if you live rurally they are so practical for dust and dirt I know. I would probably keep one pair and return the rest.

If you are happy with a rugged look you could always hack the hems anyway with a raw edge.

Does your inseam change as scoliosis progresses? What about your rise length? For many years I was 5'6" and my best length was 31 inches (heels don't vary much in height for me.) Last regular Dr appt she told me I have shrunk to 5'4." I'm 64 if that matters. I've been basically homebound with health issues since we moved to the boonies. Normally wear long skirts and nightgowns. Bad hips make trying things on difficult and returning items are worse, so I need to be pretty sure I want something. There are no tailoring businesses/stores nearby or retailers either and I don't sew. In late January I had a really bad, but simple fall, (just took a couple steps after getting up for the day and my knee just buckled. I fractured myTibia (main calve bone) in 3 places, Fibia (supporting bone) in 2 spots. Needed a metal plate, several screws put in- my scar runs from just under my knee to ankle bone- and told not to take even 1 step with bad leg till my recheck appt with surgeon later this month. He said I must have osteoporosis because of all the injuries and pieces of my bone had literally crumbled that he had to clean up. So, needless to say, haven't even tried several jeans I had ordered in a shorter inseam (others too long to scrunch). Should I send everything back *untried* and see how summer is? My one pair I'd been using got really damaged in the dryer somehow, so cant use them and threw out. .Appreciate your thoughts!
