I have altered one of them myself, Becky. Several people have complemented men on it too. So I may consider shortening some of the others. I think I'll keep some of them long though. 1) Because I like long flowing skirts, 2) because my husband likes them, 3) I like the variety of having both long and short skirts), and 4) because even though I'm short my legs are not, so I think I can get away with the long-shirt look just as well as a 5'10'' model can.

Sarah, if your skirts fit well and the colors work for you, you might be able to get them altered to knee-length (depending upon the style of the skirt). That would enable you to get some use out of them at a more flattering length.

This topic is great for me as well. I'm gradually trying to purge my wardrobe, since being in school I don't have time to do it all at once at the moment. I can't believe how many things I bought in the same style in just about every color they came in! I have one ankle length straight skirt in 4 colors (navy blue, green, khaki, and denim) and another similar one with embroidery at the bottom in 3 colors (green, khaki, and grey). I know I should only keep one, if any of each style, I'm just not sure which to keep and which to throw out. Now that I know that ankle lenght skirts look dated and make me look shorter I don't know what to wear, because I have tons of skirts and most of them are ankle lenght.

Same here. When I find nice basic tops at a good price, I buy them in several colors. I also buy exercise clothes in multiples (not even in different colors, necessarily!) - I'm so happy when something looks decent that I don't mind looking the same in the gym every morning :-)
Otherwise, I cannot imagine buying different colors of the same piece. Mix it up and have fun trying new shapes and materials!

I only buy basics in multiple colors. Things like camisoles, solid color sweaters, and fitted t-shirts...mainly things that are layerable so I can mix and match with some of the more unique and fun pieces in my closet. I think I would be willing to buy a pair of shoes in multiple colors if the fit and look were impeccable, but I can't see myself doing it with a coat. I agree with what's been said. Variety is the spice of life.

This is a great topic Theresa. Buying the same items in different colours is not a strategy that I recommend precisely because of the reasons that Mirah has highlighted (well done Mirah!) The same basic knitted top in two different colours is fine from time to time, and it’s even great for dress pants, but that’s where I’d draw the line. Do not get yourself the same coat in 2 colours. Give yourself choice when it comes to silhouette.

Hi Theresa..I totally relate with what you are saying. I also like the classic cuts and sometimes tend to buy multiple items of a same color in a style in the fear that I may never find such a good fit or style again :)

However just as I am working against it, I think you should work towards getting rid of this habit too..simply because it reduces the variety in outfits and makes the wardrobe boring. And not all styles give the same effect on us in different colors.

In the current 'coat' situation surely there must be one color which would flatter you better (even slightly) than the other? Consider points like your skin tone, the number of outfits each coat would go with, your favorite color and whether you have another one in any of these colors...Applying the same logic and adding more factors (using Angie's posts) you may be able to narrow down your choices. Hope this helps.

Thanks in advance to everyone replying to this...

Normally, I am a very decisive woman who has a definite opinion, and not afraid to express her black & white views But recently, I find myself more "indecisive" as it relates to fashion!

More specifically, I have been purchasing the same style items but in different colours (heels, pants, blazers, kneehigh boots, skirts - all for work). All my pieces are in very classic styling, but are the same style! Sometimes I do this because I think I can find use for both colours, other times I do this because I simply can't decide between the colours, so I get both!

For instance, I bought very classic high heels for work in black & brown. Then I bought the same style pencil skirt in black, then in grey pinstripe & again in navy pinstripe. The same went with the matching blazers and pants! I am petite and do find clothing harder to fit than most but is this crazy? Am I a little nuts?

Now I'm contemplating between two differerent colours of winter coat - a black and a winter white/light beige colour in the same trench styling. Should I splurge for both coats but in the different colours? (they are a great deal at $249 each, down from $549!).
