Elegant is always in. Bomber jackets and dad sneakers? Maybe for teenagers.

I've reached an age when I've decided that skinny jeans are my jam and if some magazine declares them out then I don't care. Wide legs don't work well for my life most days; skinnies don't get in my way as I'm cleaning house or gardening or walking while chewing gum so i don't trip over all the extra fabric. And yeah, I trip over wide legs when I'm walking while chewing gum. Because graceful LOL

I think these "in" & "out" lists are designed for the sole purpose of making us get rid of old things so we have to buy new things. They're designed to make us feel like we NEED new things. They're designed to get us to part with our money. And they're full of malarkey.

Chelsea boots, bomber jackets, and bucket bags are out? Ok, please explain that to all the bomber jacket owners I know who have been wearing their bomber jackets for decades.

Dad sneakers are in? Only because some manufacturers made more than they can sell, so they conned some editor into saying how cool it is to wear actual purpose built gear sneakers as fashion sneakers.

I think a lot of stuff about these in & out lists, most of it not fit to print and definitely not fit to air on network television without a 7 second delay to allow for a censor to mash the bleep button and hold it down til I get done LOL

It does seem like this is less a thing now than it used to be, although I think there are always a few items that are short-lived and very popular - cold shoulder tops come to mind - I must say I agree with that one. The others I just don't get. Maybe they are "out " for the 20-somethings but if I like it I am wearing it.

Preach it, Suntiger! Fashion websites with lots of advertising do seem pretty guilty of rubbish writing to keep the punter's attention on needing to buy more trendy stuff and ditch things they already have, from the little I've seen. We are so blessed that Angie keeps YLF free of ads for us. A lot of people must pay attention to those in/out lists is the pity of it, since apparently there are more clothes in wardrobes than ever in history?

I call bull...the same sites will call something over in one article then give "fresh ways to restyle" the same thing in the next! They'll call something "so last season " before its even available at retail.
I prefer to think of in and out as availability, sometimes it works in my favor, sometimes not. What is the best thing available at retail now for me, and how can i style it harmoniously with my existing wardrobe? If it suits my overall vision, it belongs in my wardrobe. A 20 something fashion writer living in NYC isnt going to determine that for me.
Ill stick with Angie

LOL, Lisa. No "dad sneakers" for me either, nor wide belts (they were questionable on me even 20 years and 20 pounds ago).

I like that we seem to be living in a time when we have transcended fad for personal style. I embrace it -- cold shoulders, maxis, bomber jackets, cheslea boots, and all!

As IF Chelsea boots will ever be out. Could say the same about bomber jackets too. Sure, a bomber may not be as widely represented at retail for a few seasons, but the silhouette is a sportswear classic. These lists exist only to confuse us. And if anyone catches me wearing dad sneakers? You have my permission to increase my medication.

None of these items are out, if that's what you mean?

Fashion has reached a point where fads no longer exist, and almost anything goes YOUR way. To celebrate this level of diversity, fashion is giving all sorts of silhouettes their fashion moment deliberately. I LOVE THAT.

There are items that are more on trend and less on trend, but that's it. It's a much more modern approach to what is in and what is out.

Dad Sneakers are BIG chunky Athletic sneakers.

I seldom pay attention to what is in or out each season. Also one site will call something out and another will say it is in. so go figure-These are a few I found-out Chelsea boots, bomber jackets, cold shoulder, and bucket bags. In are wide belts and dad sneakers. Never wear a wide belt and what are dad sneakers? I also found maxis out--what? Any feelings about this in and out stuff??
