I use Glo Daily Polishing cleanser very often, if not exactly daily. It exfoliates with jojoba and cellulose and has salicylic acid in it too.

Isabel, shaving didn't particularly help with upper lip hair but no ingrowns because this particular device didn't work for my coarse hair. I think it was using the wax strips. I tried a round of threading and it helped with pulling out some of the finer hairs by the follicle but obviously didn't do much with the ingrown hair. So now I am exfoliating with a soft cloth, applying Tendskin and wearing a wee moustache Once I get these to emerge, I plan to get them threaded.

I got my legs and underarms sugared and while it was nice, I don't think Can handle waiting for the regrowth to get to the right length in summer. I'll try it again in winter.

I am very into hair removal nowadays if you can't tell

I think a product with salicylic acid would be helpful. Zinc is also great for treating skin issues (so is iodine but it's rusty orange color is only for "at home" use). The color does dissipate over night typically.

I'm wondering if this is related to your recent post about hair removal and if you decided to try shaving.

I think with any type of removal it's really important to continue gently exfoliating, nothing harsh that would irritate your skin, but enough to keep the surface clear for the returning growth.

Interesting, elpgal. I checked out the ingredients in the Tendskin product, and it looks like the active ingredient is aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). I am now remembering how some people who have really bad acne do something called an aspirin mask, where they pulverize aspirin and mix it with water and put it on their face. Apparently it really works well for some.

Update: I asked the salon I use and they recommend using a product called Tendskin. Apparently, a lot of men use it for their beards and it is some sort of cult favorite. A little pricey for a drug-store product but it is supposed to work very well.

Thanks y'all. I think I'll talk to an esthetician after I try some gentle exfoliation.

I can see the hair but it's just a teeny dot of black, so not long enough to tweeze or wax yet.

Can you actually see the hair under the skin? If so, soften with a warm compress and then use a needle (sterilized with alcohol) to gently coax out the ingrown end....like you would with a sliver. Then pull with tweezers. The skin will heal itself quickly once the source of the irritation is removed.

I would try something like origins spot remover (contains salicylic acid, like 3style mentioned about). Would totally go to esthetician if you know a good one. I would avoid depilatory cream because the skin is already irritated. Another product I like a lot for congested skin is balance me congested skin serum. It seems to work even better than the Origins product, but I am not sure what the active components are.

Maybe a little bit of gel containing salicylic acid? Works for me on those tiny itchy pimples that occasionally crop up on the very outer skin layer.

I would think you would want something antibacterial to put on the hairs. Maybe tea tree oil? Lavender might also help calm the area.

So, it looks like I have a cluster of ingrown hair above my lip. I am exfoliating gently but what do I do next?
See an esthetician? Use a depilatory cream? I am finding mixed advice online.
