It does depend on how worn they are and what people's rules are. Here we mostly remove shoes indoors for practical reasons in winter (which is so much of the year) and it tends to carry over to warmer temps. Anyway,t my friend's house has cool floors, so I knew I'd want more than socks on a cold day, so I asked her directly -- "I never get to wear these babies, they are clean on the bottoms, are you ok if I wear them in your house?" We had a rare dry day and I took advantage. I'll wear the silver ones outdoors as soon as it warms up.
