Most of my exercise is swimming, and I wear a rotation of cute Sporti training suits. For Pilates, I like contrast; dark leggings or bike shorts and bright tees. I wear both "expensive" brands and Kohl's kit. I know the Title Nine and Zella items will hold up, but I want some variety without much investment. The tees are fairly fitted, otherwise they end up halfway over my head. And I don't wear flared leggings since I tripped over my own pants once.

Well this is most enlightening !

AndiB - I'm envious of the amount of exercise you get in a week - way to go ! Your look sounds like mine, although I prefer a looser tank over a sports bra . I also wear mostly black, which is also making me feel blah. I don't want to burst into techni colour but I think some "fashion " colour would help.

Irina - interesting to hear that you prefer sweatpants inside . I like a slim sweatpant too, and find it looks contemporary and youthful- not that that's a goal, but....
One of my challenges as a buyer has been finding lightweight (maybe French Terry ) slim fit sweats at a price our members will pay. 100% cotton (or close to it) bottoms are running at least $45 at cost - and even though I don't take a full retail markup, I'd have to sell them at $60 which surprisingly is a problem. I'm always so surprised at how price-conscious people are (I'd say *cheap* but that doesn't sound nice) in our gym. A French Terry sweat *short* would be fun to track down personally .

Janet - I hear you! I'm in Lululemon often enough (and I swear DD keeps them in business) to know their stock well, and it's a sea of cropped and fitted tops. UGH! Nothing like feeling aged/body-shamed out of an athletic and athleisure store . I love the blues in your Athleta pieces - I don't remember to look at them when I'm buying workout wear . Even though I like to think I cycle a fair bit in summer, I don't wear bike shorts anymore . That used to be my spin-bike uniform back in the day. Not sure why I let that go.

Brooklyn - you breathe fresh air into exercise looks. And now I want a pair of cargo shorts for walking . They have to be the perfect mix of lightweight fabric and slouchy style though. And one can really update a look with a more modern print (like your leopard ) or graphic t. I'm always so conscious about hiding myself in workout clothes that I end up looking frumpy . I think I can afford to wear better fitting gear and not look too matronly. Do you not find skirts restrictive to walk in ? As in a workout walk ? I understand the sun factor but can't imagine that extra fabric.

Suz - your pieces sound a lot like mine. I don't wear regular clothes for cycling as I'm really pushing the pace..plus it can be a dusty trail .

Sal - my husband thinks we need matching cycling jerseys - after seeing a couple of a similar age go flying past us on the trail last weekend looking sleek and serious in their gear .

I see similarities with Brooklyn and Irina!

I have a VERY streamlined workout capsule because I don't enjoy wearing gear of any description. Tech fabric feels awful against my skin, and I feel awful wearing it. Although it's what I need to wear for the workouts I do at home (no gym), so I make the exception.

I do Pilates, yoga and strength training with weights at home. I wear Athleta salutation joggers, wired sports bra, and a long sleeved yoga top. Bare feet. No shoes. I have 4 x sets in assorted colours. They are on repeat. No leggings and no sleeveless tops. The capsule takes up very little space in my wardrobe, and I love that!

I wear the same sets to PT with a BIG '80s ESPRIT hoodie and ECCO sneakers. I walk to PT, and sometimes need a puffer or raincoat too. In Winter I wear a warm coat, scarf and beanie.

For LONG walks and trails (beach, water, mountains) - I wear regular casual clothes. Jeans, casual waterproof boots, sneakers, shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, belt, casual jackets, and pearls.

For daily waiks in the city - with doggies in tow and running errands - I wear my #OOTD. It can be anything from casual to very dressy. ALWAYS comfortable shoes.

I wear sunscreen everyday, but I sometimes add a big beachy straw hat that I bought in Greece, or a simple white or tan baseball cap when I'm out in the sun for a long time.

I've had a pretty consistent gym uniform for ... well, years. I belong to my local YMCA and do 2 spin classes, 3 or 4 yoga, 1 mat pilates, and 3 or 4 lifting days each week, all at the Y. Walk some, not as much as I used to, I need to get that back into rotation. Even though I have all the dumb bells at home (up to 30 lb, and I finally got a rack so I could stop stubbing my toe on loose weights), since I got a workout and accountability buddy at the Y I really don't lift much at home. That accountability buddy is how I get 3 to 4 lifting days in (combination of free weights and machines, though I had to stop bench pressing because that exacerbated a shoulder issue, boo). We lift Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, and if one of us has to miss, we don't tell the other until meet up time!) I sometimes add in another day. The lifting regularly has been transformational

But I digress, and onto what I wear.

Honestly the same thing for almost all workouts.

Leggings: Lulu 7/8 for everything but yoga, where I choose a "tackier' fabric so I can do poses like tree without slippage)

Longline bra (agree with poster above: why doesn't any one make long line fitted workout bras, padded, supportive; I'm babying 3 from at least a decade ago to make them last forever). These come down to my hipbones or so and are snug and stay in place.

Fitted tank over the bra. I particularly like the Lulu align, and just wish it were a bit longer. I love the fabrication, and I size up so it isn't TOO tight.

Tank or tee, looser. I'll pop a looser tank or tee over the lot, to and from the gym in hot weather.

Hoodie. Heavy or light, depending on weather, to and from gym.

I do put on my workout gear either at the office when heading to the gym right from work at 5, and when I am going from home in the mornings.

Nothing fancy, pretty much the same thing for all workouts, though I'll pick lighter fabric for spin, denser for yoga, for example.

And almost all of my base workout gear is black, though the Lulu tanks in different colors, and I've added some maroon and navy bottoms.

Do you need to hear from someone who is not into gym gear? Probably not but here I am! Lol
3 x week yoga, 1 x week Pilates classes - slim joggers and a fitted t-shirts. All are Uniqlo.
2-3 x week weights and regular gym - sweatpants and a t-shirt (Uniqlo and Gap).

2-3 x week swimming - whatever swimsuit I can find that fits short torso.

Daily walks - regular clothes.

Long sleeve technical fabric t-shirts and sports bras bought from H&M.

I don’t like gear and try not to spend money on it with an exception of shoes. So, everything bought on sale and very minimal. I don’t wear shorts or leggings. I don’t have a color palette. Fabrics must be soft and in neutral colors. Swimsuits are anything that fits with no decorations.

Fortunately for me, all my athletic facilities are within 5 minutes walk from me and I don’t dress up for it.

I’m driven far more by comfort and function than style when it comes to my workout gear. My husband tells me I look cute in it, but he’s biased, LOL.

For 3x a week Pilates, it’s leggings from Athleta or Lululemon plus a *slightly* fitted tank — I cannot stand for my top to go flying up to my chin when I go into inversions. It’s gotten really hard to find tops like my favorite from Athleta, that had a textured grippy bit around the hem to keep the top more or less in place. Now they’re just making everything tight all over, and I ain’t doing that anymore. I’ve given feedback to Athleta along those lines and the SA in our store says I have a lot of company — most women do not want to wear overly cropped, tight tops, and neither do we want oversized and shapeless!

My hiking/walking stuff ranges depending on season, but I favor long loose pants rather than shorts or leggings — better protection from sun and the ticks that have taken over our area. I barely set foot in a little patch of woods two days ago and pulled a tick off my ankle right afterward.

I’ve started wearing a loose long-sleeved sun protection hoodie in warm weather to help prevent more sun damage on my arms. But I also have a small collection of slightly loose tops in a variety of sleeve lengths for walks. I have a variety of hoodies and jackets for layering as well.

My color palette for my gear is roughly the same as my usual — mostly solid colors and dark neutral pants/bottoms, with tops in the green-teal-blue range. Easy to mix and match, and keeping things in a flattering color palette makes me feel a little better.

I do have a couple of pairs of Athleta shorts and a couple of skorts that I reluctantly wear for hot weather walks, pickle ball, and post bike-ride wear (I hate driving home from a ride in sweaty padded bike shorts, yuck!). I don’t love showing my legs so I have to suck up my vanity to wear anything above the knee. But sometimes it truly is the most comfortable option.

This is an area of clothing that I am not particular about.

Yoga and weight training is a pair of oversized sweats on sale from Athleta, old alo sports bra and an ancient tank. If the sweats are in the wash, I use cotton pajamas. Swim is a racing speedo from Amazon. I exercise in our building.

Pickleball, old athleta joggers and the same alo bra and tank.

I just don’t care.

I did get new swimwear again from athleta sale after a decade —this is for vacation tho.

For weight training (at home) I wear baggy shorts or baggy cargo pants (PE Nation, first photo) with a loose or fitted tank top. Shorts are brown, olive, plum, black. Tops are various colours.

For Zumba or weight training (at the gym), I wear a skort, baggy shorts or baggy cargo pants and a loose or fitted tank top. Usually black bottoms with a neutral or coloured top. Sometimes a graphic top. I have the leopard top in the second photo and wear it with similar style shorts, a skort or my baggy pants.

For walking, I wear regular casual clothes. Generally a midaxi or maxi skirt, tee and hat in summer with sandals or sneakers. Lots of colours. I don’t wear shorts for walks outdoors because of sun exposure. I walk a lot and can’t risk it.

I don’t wear leggings except for biking (indoors). For that I wear bike shorts, which I hate. But they work for that activity.

I’m on the hunt for workout jorts. Long, lightweight and preferably baggy, cargo style. If anyone has any leads I’d love to hear them!

Okay I will go! I will write about summer rather than winter.

Outside exercising - hiking, city walking, pickleball - I wear tees mostly for shoulder coverage, often shorter bike style pants (mid thigh length). I do have shorts of various lengths from lululemon running shorts to knee length ones. I occasionally wear a polo shirt for pickleball but only because it was a gift. I wear a cap mostly and sunglasses. I wear 1/4 or 1/4 crew socks. If it is early or late I will wear a tank top but our sun is brutal.

I feel best in either a loose tee and bike shorts OR a fitted top and leggings.

Cycling - cycling pants and a cycling jersey and gloves.

Gym (inside) and pickleball - much the same except I might wear a tank top.

Yoga - I wear a fitted tank and full length leggings (fitted, not flared)

Swimming - I have three one pieces

Brands - lululemon, Lorna Jane, Adidas, Jelenew, Athleta, 2XU, Ground Effects, Icebreaker, Nimble, Under Armour.

I have thought about skorts but don't have one.

This is an area where my style is severely lacking so I am definitely not a good example. I feel as if my workout stuff is very dull, but I am not going to wear one of the cute crop-top or bra-top thingies that all the younger people wear, and I'm not sure what else to do to update my look.

Currently, for my weights workouts (at home on Zoom) I wear Zella or Athleta capri leggings and a looser tee from Smartwool, or when it is really hot, a tank. Not very exciting, I'm afraid. Colours are blues, greys, lilacs -- similar to my regular wardrobe.

For semi-regular hikes, or my occasional short runs, it is similar -- trail runners or regular runners, leggings or shorts, a smartwool tee or top (depending on weather) sometimes another layer. If rainy, I bring a light raincoat. In winter a hat.

For biking, I just wear my regular casual clothes and sometimes dressier clothes, if I am commuting somewhere. While I do purposively go out on my bike for about 45 minutes to an hour on days I won't be working out with weights, I think of this more as a bike ride than a workout -- it helps regulate my mood and sleep and I often get good ideas when I ride, but in all honesty, I'm not really pushing it. But we do have a lot of hills, so my heart rate goes up and I burn a lot of calories, apparently. Anyway -- typical outfit would be jeans or jorts, a shirt or tee, sneakers or loafers. And my visibililty vest and helmet, of course. In cold weather I wear a light puffer.

For my walks around the neighbourhood (also not really "workouts" per se) I just wear casual clothes from my regular wardrobe and comfy footwear. For urban walks (downtown or when travelling) I tend to be a bit less casual but I'll always wear comfortable footwear.

Oh, and for swimming, I have a one piece Speedo. :)

What are you wearing to workout in in the summer months outdoors (heat and sun etc) ?

And by work out, I mean walking, cycling, playing pickleball, tennis, whatever you are doing. And if you're in a gym, tell me what you are wearing these days !

I ask this for two reasons:

1. personally I feel frumpy and old-lady-ish looking in the outdoor uniform I've been wearing for years: golf skirt, or 7 inch inseam athletic shorts, and a shapeless tech fabric tank . Sometimes shorter shorts, but not too often . Nothing is very fitted because I'm not comfortable in stretchy tight -fitting tops especially. That ship has sailed.

I'm on holidays this week and have been outside everyday getting in the cardio/steps I don't manage to achieve when I'm working ......and I'm wearing everything I own. I took one look at myself in the mirror today before heading out and didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Shapeless and frumpy with a golf hat on to top it all off. Maybe the significant birthday I just had has me in a tailspin, but I feel my workout style needs a kick in the @%%. For indoor weight workouts, I care a lot less as it's just me and the tv - at home - so I'm in any old t-shirt and shorts. I don't exercise at work.

2. a big part of my job is buying and merchandising the "pro-shop" at the gym I work at. I don't like referring to it as a gym because it's SO much more than that, but for the sake of simplicity.....

The market I'm selling to is women (and men, but forget them for now, lol) between 40 and 75ish. Everything I source I have custom decorated with our logo or current "motto" (One Body for Life) . On any given day I'll see between 500 and 600 people if I'm up at the reception desk or out in the gym itself , so I see EVERYTHING everyone wears. Women wear capri length leggings and t-shirts - with the exception of the very fit ones who wear the old-school fitted Lulu tanks/w/bra type of top and shorts ( I noticed Uniqlo had a ton of those bra tank workout tops too) . Some of them take pride and care with what they wear, and the ensembles are nice and fit well. Others just don't care. I am looking for outside input -tell me what you all are wearing please !!!. ETA: and colour ! What colours are you wearing for your gear /exercise wear ??
