Sounds like you’ve arrived at a good fix with regard to wardrobe and fit.

I also want to add that sometimes when I feel the doldrums with my clothing that making some small changes in other areas of life can help jumpstart the creative flow. Even something as small as trying a few new foods from the grocery store ( it’s so easy to just buy the same things every week, isn’t it?) or taking a different route walking or driving to work or errands helps mix up that status quo feeling and brings some novelty and newness in. It surprises me how it can have transfer value to my wardrobe.

Checking back in, as promised! Angie helped me see that 50-60% of my wardrobe was really ill-fitting after some weight loss. I couldn’t see the difference, but i sure can now!! Passing along all the too-big items gave me clarity and new enthusiasm about what remains! So grateful. And im following the suggestions and steps recommended in this thread with a refreshed sense of joy. Thanks!!

Great suggestions here. I too have a long hot summer which goes for about 6 months of the year with temps above 25C. I find accessories to be fun, I change out my handbags daily and rely on handbags, shoes and jewellery to add interest to outfits. I also play around with my hair and make-up. A summer uniform for me is dress, sandals and bag.

The periwinkle dress is lovely on you. There are already lots of good suggestions here. I find doing mini challenges keep my wardrobe interesting when the season seems long and I get bored. I try to think of new outfit combinations, around one item, how many ways can I restyle this (insert top, bottom) for the week? Or I try new color combinations. I find when I break up the go to combinations I use on autopilot it gets my creative juices flowing without having to shop.

One thing that I used to do and LOVED was using a rolling rack in my bedroom to hang a capsule collection for , say , a month or two . This follows Suz’s suggestion . I found it immensely helpful and took a lot of decision fatigue out of dressing . It also helped me decide which pieces were working hard for me and which ended up not mattering .

When I get bored, in winter in my case, I make colour based capsules from what I have, preferably on an actual list I love to look at the Vivienne Files blog for colour combination inspiration. It often sparks unworn combinations, keeping things fresh.

uneasy shopper, there are so many light, simple, short dresses in summer. A shift sounds like it would work, but you said you wanted waist defining. I am assuming it will be hot.

I like to look at Quince online, because they have such simple fabrics and shapes in many colors.

Counterintuitively to what they say, I sometimes have a harder time with basics and the things I need. One thing that helps me get out of a rut is spontaneously buying something I don't really need, that I don't check to see how it will fit in my wardrobe. So recently, I bought a beach bum trucker hat (pretty cool), yellow and blue eyeliner, and a bold paisley summer dress.

You do have to really want these things, though. You can't just do "bored shopping." I think this is a version of when the stylist says to the customer, have you tried x? have you tried orange? how do you feel about white shoes? stuff like that.

Excellent suggestions from Sal and Suz! :)

Florida has a relentless hot and humid climate, and you dress SOOOO WELL in that almost impossible Summer weather, Emily. Please feel reassured!

My 2 cents:

Speak to your stylist about a new hairstyle! Pop in some streaks if that tickles your fancy. Could be fun and dramatic :)

Address underwear. You know what to do ;)

You've recently edited a LOT for your wardrobe post weight loss. You are missing your favourite pieces. GET THEM BACK! Like colourful pants and tops in your favourite colours.

Shoe update: new sandals and loafers since it's been a while since you shoe shopped.

FOCUS on your neutrals: whites, blues, toffee and whiskey. Remix them with brights.

Think dressy long shorts, dark wash jorts, dresses, skirts, trousers, blouses, and shirts in natural fibres, or blends.

Jackets with short sleeves in a/c maybe - good for a professional look. Wear a tank top underneath.

Let us know how you do along the way :)

Sal's suggestions are great!

Another trick I tried when I lived in a climate with a very long and very boring winter was to break the season up into four or six week increments and consciously wear different items depending on which "small" season I was in. So...I had "warm fall" (where fabrics could still be lightweight but colours were fall-like. "Cold fall" (where temps had fallen and I needed winter weight stuff. "Holiday" (where I brought out all my red and white and spangly stuff -- I still do this for about a month each winter!). Then there was "Late winter," which often included one or two new knits, just to get me through the boredom....and finally, "Cold spring," where I still needed warm clothes but they had to be in lighter colours to reflect the change in light.

Could you try something similar for your very long summers?

It sounds as if boredom is only part of the problem, though. I cacn easily imagine that finding business looks that work in tropical heat is extremely difficult, and maybe you're not "mindlessly scrolling" so much as hoping above hope to come up with a kind of formula that would be acceptable to you and also accessible.

What level of dressiness do the business looks need to reach? Are you at peace with the creas (i.e. linen) or not?

Brooklyn's brilliant at outfits for high summer temps, but hers are (these days) more relaxed and casual due to lifestyle changes. In the past, though, she had to dress for an office. In any case, one of her strategies is to find a silhouette that works for her and replicate it in multiple great-for-her colours, and then to accesorize with flair. So the outfit shape might stay the same, but the footwear, bracelets, bag, earrings, necklaces etc. will differ and so will the colours and the combos.

Things I have tried when feeling this way

Challenges -

-30x30 challenge or 10x10 challenge

-wearing ALL my seasonal clothes in a month

- wearing my accessories (I chose five pieces I like but struggle to wear and wore them two ways in a month)

- the not shopping challenge, just taking one or two months and not allowing myself to shop. I often find after this my shopping is really targeted.

- recreating Pinterest or forum outfits

And sometimes it is about other aspects of my life I am bored with. It's pretty hard right now in many parts of the world for all the reasons we know and it is relentless.

Would love ideas for how to escape the style doldrums without going on a shopping spree.

I’m bored of my clothes and bored of clothes in general. I know some steps to take, but some are hard (like making time to style my hair and apply makeup) and some require more sartorial skill than i currently have (like finding business looks that work in tropical heat). Mindlessly scrolling is so much easier! Sadly less effective, though.

Any suggestions? Ways to follow through on what i know i need to do? Other ideas to spark interest again?
