Thank you all so much! I'm glad this has been fun for you to see. :-)

Caro: Thank you. What a sweet thing to say! I need to experiment more with some light to medium toned looks. I have done some lining of just the upper eye - sort of cat eye - but even that tends to garner lots of comments from people who wonder if I'm sick or tired. I may just need to do it often enought to give them time to adjust their eyes!

Peri: Exactly! I agree, there doesn't need to be conflict. It all boils down to why we do what we do. I actually feel much more like myself with makeup done.

LACeleste: thank you! You always say the most touching things! <3

Nicole: thanks! My husband is always saying I'm part elf... or tree sprite. I hadn't thought about vixien... but I like it!! :-)

Meredith: Awwwww, you're welcome, and thank you! It is kind of freeing to show the me that normally doesn't get introduced to people...

Tricia: I don't know why we didn't think of playing with makeup! That would have been fun. Just like our body types, we are opposite in makeup - me with the stronger eye and you with the stronger lip. Thank you for the sweet quote... made me feel all teary - in a good way. <3

E: thank you! You are making me think about ways I could use this crazy hair that I hadn't thought of already. Nice!! :-)

Viva: thanks, and well said... fully embracing both. Yes, I almost said something about the power of product. My hair is crazy strong, and that's AFTER being beaten up with bleach. It took a decent quantity of two products and a little hair spray to tame it into that after shot! :-)

Gracie and Suz: thank you both for the kind compliments! You guys are so sweet! <3 <3

Gigi: The "other" me was happy to meet you all. I have a really hard time with lip color. I have super thin lips and anything dark just doesn't look right to my eye (although I'm not critical of other thin lipped women who wear darker colors). I also don't like going dark or even colorful on my lips when I wear so much eye makeup. Despite the fact that my look is not at all "natural" I don't want it to be the makeup that people see. On top of that, most lip colors just aren't flattering on me. I seem to fall into a very neutral category - warm colors are too warm and cool colors are too cool. I have finally settled on a few select shades of either gloss or lip crayon that are almost exactly the color of my lips. But I do agree with you and Caro that it would be fun to try some more looks with the eye makeup. I feel challenged - in a good way! Thank you for that!

Niki Lea: thank you! As you can see, I have that sensitive skin that turns red when you even look at it sideways, and I tend to get more breakouts than I thought a woman over 40 should ever get! I have been learning some things along the way that seem to help. My favorite skin care routine is to never moisturize at night. I wash my face at night and put some water that has a few drops of lavendar and frankensence essential oils in it and leave it alone. In the morning my skin is covered with its own oils that it created during the night! I don't re-wash my face, but put more of the same scented water on it, then use either a mosurizer or some coconut oil (although too much of that causes me to breakout so I can't do it every day other than using it as an eye makeup remover). And that's it... Of course then comes the makeup!

And thank you all for the hair compliments. I have been having so much fun since going a little shorter. I'm trying to get braver with the styling, and all of the encouragement and support here is keeping me brave.

Thanks for sharing this, Sarah! It's nice to see the "other" you. I think Caro's suggestion would be fun too: a midrange version of the look. Do you ever change your look up with different colors of lipstick, etc.?

I agree with others that your hairdo in pic 2 is amazing!

As a fellow short-hair wearer, though, I have to say that my first thought was: this could be a testimonial for the transformative power of hair product.Your do in pic 2 is amazing.

I wish I had remembered to ask you to make me over when you were here, I love how you are doing your eyes these days; of course I've always known you were beautiful with or without make-up. I read this on FB the other day and immediately thought of you.

Yes! I love that video, but I love makeup too. I see no conflict...makeup is fun, it doesn't mean I have self esteem issues just because I want to wear it. But I do love and agree with the video too. It doesn't have to be an either/or.

After I showered this morning and blow dried my hair, I looked up and realized that I looked like a spun out q-tip! I thought I would post a pic in the spirit Colbie's music video and leave it at that, but in light of recent forum posts about hair and makeup and what that does for one's style quotient, I decoded to post the after. While I have made peace with the *real* me, I truly do prefer to put my slightly (er, significantly) less real foot forward.
