MG, I'm 5'3", and just not nearly as tiny as those super petite bloggers. Plus, they all have very different, professional, lifestyles than me! I can't afford to shop retail (even if there weren't ethical issues), and I definitely can't afford to shop retail and then get it tailored. Not to mention, had a pretty 'blah' experience with the tailor who altered my bridesmaid dress, which doesn't make me want to rush my thrift store finds to the nearest tailor! So I think learning to sew is going to help me. I suspect my body shifted this past year too, with my waist shrinking a bit, just enough that now several of my skirts are a touch too big, and several of my trousers are now more prone to falling down.

Anyway, I can certainly understand why you didn't want to flash your students, and I imagine it's a challenge to find the sweet spot with a bigger chest. But now you've got the whole forum to help!

You look great! There's nothing better than feeling great-both inside and out! I think all of us have that problem from time to time, how to prevent from feeling too fussy when putting something together, and it feels so much better when you just wear makes you feel like YOU!

Yes, you've nailed a comfortable and flattering look.
I would love to see an ECU of your trilobite earrings. I was fortunate to live for many years within easy access of trilobite fossils. One of the advantages of living in an ancient land.

Thanks all. Next week I'll be back to the oversized borrowed wool pullovers in an effort to keep warm at the museum, but it feels good to remember to wear my own clothes now and again. And once I have an income again, I'll be looking to buy some cashmere that actually fits me.

Caro, why is it SO HARD to get the skimming, not tight, not boxy fit?!

E, do you know about the blogs specifically for very petite women? I think there's one called Alterations Needed and another called Extra Petite. Even though their styles are very different from yours, you might get good info about where to buy clothes, how to do alterations, etc. I hear you on the modesty bit. I started wearing larger clothes when I realized that my boobs were pouring out of everything, even things that looked fine in the mirror, when I sat down or leaned forward suddenly were rather porntastic. The last thing I want is for students to be thinking about my boobs/body, but I've probably gone overboard - as usual.

You look great! The baby bootcuts look wonderful on you.

I think sometimes variety in what we wear is even more important than having a preference that you don't stray from. Changing things up keeps our favorite looks fresh, IMO.

>>Sometimes I have to remind myself that dressing in oversized garments is not somehow morally superior

I've been mulling over modesty lately, so this struck a chord! I've also been mulling over fit & how much of my wardrobe fits perfectly vs how much is almost or not quite or not at all. The forum makes me think too much. ;)

Also, there's something so nice about wearing things that fit perfectly, isn't there? You look wonderful and effortless in this, and I loved reading your thoughts on it.

As someone with a larger bust & upper body I have found that clothes that are "boxy" make me feel less than my best self. I also don't like body-con clothing on me - just not my personality. So for me the clothes with a skimming fit - especially in the bust, sleeve & underarm area are the ones that get worn most because I feel best in them Not always easy to find but so worth the wait when I do.

YLF & even more importantly imo you feel fab which to me is what makes a great outfit. I hear you about fussy too.

I'm obviously not someone who spends a huge amount of time trying to look thinner or creating an hourglass shape. BUT. Sometimes I have to remind myself that dressing in oversized garments is not somehow morally superior - or even necessarily more comfortable. Today I'm wearing clothes that actually fit. I started with the faded mini-flares, a geometric print T shirt, and my brown Fat Baby cowboy boots. The cocoon shaped cardigan is warm and cozy but not too baggy, too long, or too anything else. In Pic 3 I'm trying to show my trilobite earrings and my tiger eye necklace.

Guess what? I like this quite a lot - I was warm and comfortable, both physically and emotionally. It goes back to the subtle part of my original style statement. I think I've been focusing too much on the Bohemian part and creating outfits that are too complex and fussy for me.

Thank you everyone for all your comments and suggestions. I am learning so much from you all, so please, keep 'em coming!
