I like the gear approach since the activity is clearly tough physical activity with bending and squishing through doors and all that moving stuff entails. Or if you are a jeans for everything person , then that too. I even wear work gloves if I'm gripping heavy furniture and things!
I can't speak for other parents, but I guess my ideal first image is a nicely groomed person( clean to start off with, but not with date- night makeup
), hair up or ponytail( as opposed to long, sultry look!) in clean but appropriate clothing, who's friendly, polite and seems to get on well with my dear child!

Wow, that's a tough situation. For the moving part, I would wear long shorts and slip on sneaks and a airy top in a flattering color. Make sure to wear a bit of make-up and your best smile. Let your personality shine through. Then bring a quick change of clothes for the meal after the move.

Wishing you inner calm and a safe move!

Smile, be pleasant and helpful, and speak kindly to their son--you will make a great first impression! I'm sure you were going to do all that anyway!

LadyLilac - His parents are helping him move, so I'll be meeting them as we're moving him in. So unfortunately I won't be able to change before making a good first impression!

I'd go with cute gear, A - Sweat wicking capris, sneakers and a loose top. You wont be comfortable if you're not comfortable. Bring a cardigan or jacket in case of chill, and a change of clothes (casual, so they work with the sneakers) for when the move is all done in case you're going out for dinner or whatever. Some baby wipes/a washcloth for a quick sink bath are probably a good idea too.

Will you have time to change in between moving and then meeting the parents? Are you meeting the parents in the apartment or going out to dinner?

If there is no time to change, I would say wear denim capris or boyfriend jeans (anything that looks cute but that you don't mind getting dirty) and a T-shirt/workout shirt for moving, and then maybe bring a a nicer blouse/light sweater that will work with the jeans to throw on after moving is over, and/or a topper if you're going out to dinner later.

Hope this helps!

I've been stressing about this for awhile and haven't known where to turn since the great travesty of 2013 (when Polyvore's ask section closed), so I hope I've come to the right place!

Tomorrow I'm meeting my boyfriends parents (and his two best friends who live out of state) for the first time. No problem, I can find a cute outfit for that, right? Wrong! It's also the day he's moving to a new place. It'll be in the low 60s outside, but his building is HOT! We have to carry his belongings up two flights of stairs, down a long corridor, and then once inside his place, there are two more flights of stairs (kitchen, dining, den on first level, living area on second, bedroom on third) so I'll probably get hot and sweaty.. But the cold air will be giving me a chill as well!

What on Earth do I wear for this scenario?!
