Have you considered a slip on shoe that feels more like a wet suit shoe?
I switched from sandal styles to a slip-on water shoe many years ago - when I was walking though water, a sharp bit (like the very real examples you mention) going between foot and shoe would be a very real hazard when I was in remote areas or carrying my gear in/out. I like that these styles keep stuff out, and feel more secure to my foot. Plus, they aren't as heavy and you don't have to worry about sunburn! :-P

ETA Merrells fit my feet, which sound similar to what you describe you need!

It's also worth looking at other styles of Keen. Some (most) of them are awful on me, but the "rose" style is awesome.

I just use cushy Nike flip flops for water shoes (buried in my Finds). Ok for a few miles, though probably not 10! The nicest cushiest ones I had were Lifeguard brand, bought in desperation from concession stand at a rocky beach!

I also recommend Chacos, but like la ped says, only if you like arch support. The design of chacos is genius - it’s one strap woven through, so FULLY adjustable, and no Velcro that will lose its strength. I went through 4 pairs in my 20s, but had to move on due to the arch issue. Good luck!

I haven’t heard of Chaco’s before, but it sounds like they may be worth trying. Thanks for the suggestions!

Without water shoes, you’ve got to do that sting ray shuffle. We usually just picked them up at Target. They’re very minimal shoes, similar to going barefoot.

Mine are not fashionable, but I have a pair of Oneill surf shoes that look like a slip-on sneaker. No true arch support, but they don't slip or cause blisters on my narrow heel. I wear them for beach combing and camping; they wouldn't be good (or cute) for walking around town.

I have no suggestions but my foot is shaped a bit like yours from your description and while I have never tried Keen water shoes I can tell you that their sandals adamantly do not work for me, ever. Just the wrong last.

I hope you find something soon!

Take a look at Chaco if you like arch support. They do some closed toes as well as sandals.

I have 2 pair of Keens that are at least 7 years old and they have held up beautifully. I also really like my Chaco’s. I have average width feet, high arch, and a narrow heel and find the Chaco’s fit well.

I so sad to hear that. Keen has always been my go-to shoe for beach and water activities. I've owned them for many years. Their straps didn't stretch at all (wide feet). Perhaps a change in overall quality from previous years?

No recommendations. I'll watch to see what others have to say

The Keen water shoes that worked well last year failed this year. I developed huge blisters on the bottom and lateral aspects of both heels when I was on the beach! OUCH! I couldn’t walk well for two days until the blisters receded. The blisters surprised me! I have run many marathons without developing a single blister....... I am careful about the fit and breaking in of my shoes. On a typical vacation day I log a minimum of 10-12 miles. I prefer water shoes because there can be sharp edged shells, sticks, jelly fish and sadly, the occasional piece of broken glass or rare fishing hook and lure. Perhaps the straps stretched making them too loose on my heels, which are narrow and skinnier than the rest of my foot. If so, the Keens were only good for one season, and probably not a great investment. Has anyone else had this problem? Any recommendations for durable well fitting water shoes for someone with a high arch, medium bordering on narrow width foot, and narrow heels?
