Oh, if Ann Taylor did a plus line in store I would be in heaven. Weirdly, the Ann Taylor outlet store nearby carries a wider range of sizes than the regular stores - they regularly have 18s and usually AT only has up to 14 in store. I think Loft goes up to 18 but their larger sizes are always seriously picked over.

Agreed - I fit well in the 1xPetite. It is cut generously in the bust (no gathers or pull lines) and more like a missy regular size in the arms and length. It's the best fit for me and no one else seems to carry this range.
Land's End does the same thing - items in petite through plus all the same but with different sizing. Eileen Fisher too.
LE is just a bit too preppy for me (Talbots can be as well - I have to be careful not to fall into my super prep tendencies there) so I wish there were a few more lines like this. Ann Taylor would be great!

VC, definitely recommend Talbots to your mom - my store had a lot of suit and suit-y options for plus. I like Avenue and Lane Bryant, but they've definitely gone in the younger, more casual direction. Talbots is a bit more expensive, but at least at my store they have a lot of sales (everything was 30% off today on top of any clearance items) and the items I've bought before have usually held up well.

Angie, as it turned out a couple of knit tops and a button-up blouse (nothing for the lunch, alas) but everything was discounted fairly deeply so that was a bonus. Wanted to get some red cropped jeans but they didn't have my size.

So what did you get?

Thank you so much for sharing this! I used to be in plus, and my Mom is in plus, and my step-Grandma now needs plus-petites. It's tough for my Mom to find good things, and it's especially tough trying to find things for 'plus petites' for my step-Grandma.

I know exactly what you mean about finding nice professional wear for plus - that's the trouble my Mom is having - a lot of the so-called "plus" stores seem to have abandoned good quality basics, such as dress pants and suits. It seems like some of the 'plus' specialty stores have gone the route of 'fast fashion', and yet, there are still lots of people around who need a nice suit, a well-fitting pencil skirt or what have you.

I'll remind my Mom to keep checking Talbot's for these things - thanks!

I was at Talbots today looking for something to wear to my fancy lunch later this week (post upcoming!) and I was very impressed at the options that Talbot has for plus sizes. They have versions of most of the misses' options for plus, as well as some different items and a whole plus petite line. I don't know of another brick & mortar store that has so many choices for the whole plus size range, especially if you need professional officewear.
