Well, I am sad to say that my blazer(s -- in six sizes!) arrived yesterday and they are going back. The petites were too short-waisted, and the sleeves on the regulars were too long and shortening the sleeves while preserving the piping isn't a project with which I care to get involved. Also there were many pockets, which I felt made me look wider than necessary.

Onward...

Land's End has them too. It is a ponte knit, which I really like. It makes it really easy to care for. Last year I bought a wool one at Boden which I LOVE !!!!!!!!

It's certainly worth trying! I tried on the grey one and almost bought it. I was looking for a casual blazer, but after some deliberation I felt it was just a tiny bit too "junior" looking on me. I can't quite put my finger on why, because it's a very decent blazer for the price (especially if you can get it on sale.) I'm having a hard time finding a blazer that doesn't look too "office" yet doesn't look too "junior," but my personal taste probably runs a bit more on the structured/dressy side where blazers are concerned.

Diana, I also am impressed by the quality of this blazer. I bought it three weeks ago in Vamp Red. I think it is one of those pieces that is perfect for the office, but on the weekend when you are thinking 'ah... a sweatshirt and jeans would be nice and cozy' then this paired with a tee or cotton button down will be the same comfort only way more polished! The lining of mine is a grayish olive with polka dots...rolling those sleeves is definitely an option!!

I got this @ $66 and had to size down. I'm NOT short-waisted, and DD said it looks boxy on me. Although it fits, it is somehow not terribly flattering on me so it is going back. YMMV. It did not strike me as stretchy like most ponte knits.

I took a look at it in store the day it showed up on the forum but I didn't post my opinion at that time because I didn't want my crazy pickiness to deter others from trying it.

The Good:

I thought the fabric/construction was reasonable quality for the price point. The listed price may be $88 but Gap regularly has 30% off sales and sometimes even 35%. If you can take the risk of your size/color selling out, the actual price paid would end up around the $50 mark. If you wanted the burgundy, you definitely needed to pay full price.

The Bad:

The piping looked exactly like grosgrain ribbon. It is much more labor intensive to cut strips of fabric and attach them as piping because you have to press a hem under on both sides. Using a ribbon or a woven strip of fabric that looks like a ribbon is much easier because the two edges are finished already. Because I know how to sew, if I looked down at my sleeve, I would always feel the jacket looked lower quality because the piping had the same texture as grosgrain.

When I compared the quality of my Jigsaw jacket to my Talbots jacket on the forum last January, a few people thought I meant the Talbots jacket was low quality. The Talbots jacket was good quality for the price but the Jigsaw jacket was so much better, that I preferred to pay the higher price. I feel the same way about the Gap jacket. The quality/price ratio is comparable, but I'm in a "wardrobe place" where I want to buy the 5-10 year investment jacket instead of the 1-3 year fun jacket. YMMV.

Diana: I purchased the jacket online during the 25% off sale. I, too, would commend the quality -- a quality of fabric and construction that's rare in jackets twice it's price.

I'm returning, though, because I feel it's a little short for me (at 5'6," I'm a little long-waisted), and it's just too warm for my hot self! That said, I agree it's TTS, and generous enough for those with a bust. I did find it a tad short for me, and a little long on my very average arms.

Just one more review!

I tried this blazer on last weekend in-store and found it TTS although I clearly needed the petite XS rather than the regular size. It definitely reads as a structured suiting fabric, with defined shoulders--I was looking for a very casual blazer and it was too formal for me, but my lifestyle is uber-casual right now. I also didn't care for the hand-feel of the polyester, although it definitely had heft and seemed well-constructed.

Jem, I agree. The ponte knit seemed much more substantial and less stretchy than my other ponte knit blazer (from tinley road/piperlime). I'm not crazy about poly blend knits but I don't mind them in blazers and other outerwear since I wouldn't be wearing them in summer heat and humidity, plus they're not touching my skin for the most part anyway.

Angie, I hadn't considered the blue/black, but it's great so thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I saw it in my store. They had two greys (the darker one with black piping that's on the website, and a lighter one with citron tipping), the black/white, and the fuchsia/white. The fuchsia is indeed extremely bright.

Kari, I believe Gap had a friends and family sale last august, so I'm hoping they do it again this year!

Parsley, I believe the piping on the red one is black (at least it looks like that on my monitor), but I don't know if anyone has seen it IRL yet. It's still on the website in Tall if you want to take a look.

Diana -- this looks like a great and affordable jacket. I just love ponte knit because it holds its shape so very well, and I have no aversion to today's polyester. I guess I'm an equal opportunity fabric wearer. At the very least, I won't right something off until I've given it a try. I love Angie's idea of the ink blue tipped with black. I may have to check this one out for myself! Thanks for the review!

I LOVE that blazer! I tried it on last week and thought it looked and fit really nice, although I thought it was a bit short on me. I guess I wasn't wrong, since you found it on the shorter size, too. I was thinking about trying the tall version from the US site, but th bugundy ones are pretty much sold out! I have to say that the fuschia one was brighter than I expected, but still nice. I actually really love RPL or Rayon, Poly, Lycra blends. I thought it was made really nicely. I'm sad that the burgundy ones are sold out already.

Diana, I'd love to see a photo of you in this jacket! It looks tailored, lined, stretchy, versatile and is machine washable. These are all good points. Thanks for the quick little item review, and actually, it looks like a cute cut in the online photo! So if it looks even better in real life, that's extra encouraging.

Polyester, especially as a blend is not all bad. Knits with a poly component are generally more stable than cotton/spandex knits. Ponte knit is a comfortable and affordable jacket fabrication.

As for the colour, you'd look fab in the burgundy. But I'm really liking the ink blue piped with black too. I know you share the love for that color combination with me!

Anna, I have a woven wool tipped black and cream Club Monaco blazer that is going into it's 5th year.

I like it! I still kick myself for not getting a tipped blazer that was at Club Monaco a few years ago.

Whoa, this is way cuter than most tipped items I see. I love the fuchsia, though I can't see it working well with my wardrobe. Cute!

It's a ponte knit, which typically has some poly or other human-made material in it. I think it's cute and I'll bet the red one would look fab with your coloring.

Diana,

If the outside fabric is polyester, I'd bet my last dollar that the lining is too. Sorry to put a dampener on it, but I think $88 is too expensive for something that looks cheap! You deserve better, and if you hold out, you'll find better! After all, you said you only checked this out 'cos you had time to kill. That's no way to clothes shop if you really want something that's just right for you!
