You guys are all so much help, thank you!

Lynne, I have long and short jeans. I use my shorter ones for 0.5-1.5 in. heels, and longer ones for 1.5-2.5 in. heels. That's as high of heels as I'm comfy wearing.

I live in PNW and wear boots almost exclusively in the fall/winter (including with dressy outfits). I vote for booties. I have about 6 pair of booties and 6 pair of knee-high boots. I also love wearing my flat oxfords in the winter, but I'm not sure if that's your style.

If you already have found a pair you like should should spring for them! Grey is just as versatile as black, I think. They will be invaluable. You'll love them!

I agree that a pair of dressy boots in a light neutral would get you further than a pair of pumps. Even with tights, boots are hands down more comfy in rain than pumps!

Brenda, do you have existing hem lengths (I'm thinking jeans and pants here) that you need to work around? I love your list, and can't wait to see the loot :).

"To what occasions would you wear the nude heels?"

Probably not many, but I want to be able to dress up when I need to. In theory, I could buy some when I actually need them. I need boots more for the winter.

Grey boots are on my list as well. I am thinking of dying a pair of my brown boots. I would add oxfords since they are so comfy and cute with dresses, skirts, jeans....

In your place, if you don't already have these, I would add:

Black ankle boot (flat or low heel so it is walkable)
Dressy heeled tall boot (in black or color that matches most of your wardrobe)
Dressy heeled ankle boot in a vibrant color (red/maroon/cognac)

To what occasions would you wear the nude heels? The only time I wear pumps in the winter is to weddings or other extremely dressy events. Otherwise, I don't have a social situation for which I'd want to risk my mobility in cold/wet weather. That's my bias of course - your lifestyle may be different.

Nude heels would be a great buy for summer though

If you live in a climate wetter than Seattle, how about a pair of Hunter wellies? Or other cute but practical rain boot.

Hm, I read the subject line and started daydreaming of a custom-made closet just for my fall-winter footwear . . . snapping back to reality, I think your list of priorities is good, and in your shoes (sorry, couldn't help it), I'd be focusing on boots too. I agree with QM, think about casual/rugged vs dressy/refined versions to figure out which of those you need as well.

Hmmm... QM, good point about needing dressy boots. Perhaps I should be looking for dressy nude boots with a bit of a heel rather than pumps?

I would buy ankle boots first, but in a color I'll get a lot of use out of. For me, this would probably be burgundy or red. (I'm a "brights" kind of gal, though.)

I agree with the ankle boots! Maybe a few in different heel heights, like a flat and a low heel (keeping in mind the MOTG).

I agree.. .it sounds like boots are your best choice for the season. I'd make sure to have both dressy and casual boot options, so that when you want/need to be more dressy on a "dark and stormy" night, you won't have to default to pumps.

edited so that I what I said actually makes sense LOL.. no more wine for me tonight!

I love the idea of gray boots. I wear my gray-beige boots all winter long. They really go with almost everything. Of course comfy nude or neutral heels are key for dressier looks.

I agree with your assessment. The first thing that came to mind after I finished your list of current shoes was a pair of nude heels. I think the ankle boots would be fun for you as well.

You are a MOTG who is also a SAHM. You live in a wet climate (Pacific Northwest).

Right now in your shoe closet, you have:

ballet flats in a few colors... satisfied there
black heels
knee high boots in black and cognac
1 pair ankle boots in brown for under boot cuts only
1 pair non-athletic sneakers in suede

What shoes would you buy first?

I'm thinking I need as a bare minimum this fall:

nude heels
black ankle boots
gray ankle boots... because I found a pair I love and would wear a lot

Are my ideas ok? What else should I include right away? I know this is tough because of style differences, but I'm really struggling to set priorities in my buying. I need a place to start. I'm thinking I need more boots than anything else because my climate is similar to Angie's, only wetter.
