My mother believed if she spent $2.99 (1977 dollars) on something, you were bloody well going to wear it.  I dodged the shield bra by making her laugh with my note. Plus there's the sewn fabric kind, which IMHO give the most structure, shaping, and support, but can outline through fine knits very easily.
