Filene's Basement had them this summer on clearance rack in several styles and colors. I have an older pair that I found at Loehmann's a few years back. They are cute mules, not ballet flats.... but also uber-comfy. Just in case you want any more suggestions/input, I would choose either Tory Burch or Cole Haan. Cole Haan has a great pair of soft leather metallic flats (that I believe shiny has, too) that are amazing, versatile, and comfortable. Casual, smart casual, etc.? I HIGHLY recommend Arcopedico - they're a Portuguese company and super comfortable walking shoes. I bought a red pair (you can see it in the photos I posted with the silver jacket) - they're not formal but can be smart casual with the right outfit. They are the most comfortable shoes in my closet and I can wear them day in and day out and walk as long as I want in them - no limits. The local store here that carries it is Romax in case they have a web presence. But in Paris on the days that weren't hot (70s) I wore them all day long and walked everywhere in them. They are truly an 8 hour shoe. I took just three shoes for the trip, and I wore them the most. They do stretch out and can seem to slip off your feet when you first put them on. However, I found that if you are walking everywhere for 8 hours, your feet swell so much, the stretching is a good thing. Also, if you are going on an airplane, feet tend to swell, so the me-too's are perfect for that. Second favorite choice would be Cole Haan in a ballet flat. Many of their styles have Air Nike technlogy, and real leather uppers, so are more breathable. I really like my Privo's but alas they have a back strap that doesn't work for walking a lot. But, I would definetly give Privo another try in a different style. I have a pair of Born boots that I will be wearing quite a lot this fall and winter. I also like Merrell, but you have to choose carefully as some of their styles are clunky and sporty. I'm going to be on the lookout for some flats this fall (I live in a warmer climate and can wear ballet flats all year) so I will let you know if I find any I love. Others like Clarks. I'd suggest that whatever you get, if you are going to do a lot of walking, get something with some support built in. I also like a low strap to keep them on my feet when walking fast. And get rubber soles for comfort and traction.
