What Irina said! I wash and put away first the cashmere, then the merino. I clean and put away the boots and bring out the sandals and summery footwear. I store some of my heavy coats in an extra closet and bring the lightweight rain gear up from the basement. And I move some things around in the closet -- putting heavier blazers/ jackets/ dresses towards the back and bringing forward the lighter weight items.

Our grill could use a clean like that!

Where I live, winter was long. And spring was extra short this year, as summer arrived earlier than usual.

The turtlenecks, boots, opaque tights, gloves and other warm items that I needed in spring but will not wear in summer went up to the attic. Down came breezy tops, dresses, skirts and pants, plus beachwear, sandals, summer hats and fabric bags.

A few spring items were edited out. And
some items that I needed or wanted for summer were purchased. Among these are a solid white blouse/tunic, blue low-heeled slingbacks, and light beige loafers with sturdy soles.

In the bedrooms,, our all-seasons duvets were switched to light summer duvets.

I prepared by researching the new climate and cutting back on my wardrobe. I should have cut back more. I felt that summer things would naturally diminish because of heat and more washing. I did not plan on it being such a short cold season that I wore very little of what I brought with me for summer.

April, I am afraid I don't quite understand the expression "changing climates rn" (in the heading of your interesting post). In particular, I wonder what "rn" means.

How lovely to be in late spring!! I like some of these rituals.

It’s autumn here and mostly has been stunning- the tree colour has been magnificent this year. Some heavy rain but lots of still clear days.

I have been getting my winter vege garden going, picking and cooking apples and donating citrus like crazy! Our lemon tree is going nuts.

The communal family coat closet items get rotated: winter coats and accessories cleaned and stored in basement closet and lightweight jackets, ball caps, sun hats move upstairs.

All my clothes are accessible year round, but I re-arrange the clothes hanging in my closet so that the lighter coloured ones are front and center and the darker ones are at the back on the pole.

I did a mini cull of items this past weekend (3 day holiday weekend in Canada) and donated or binned items that made it past the October review and shouldn’t have.

It looks like someone was living in your BBQ! We have a solar oven and someone was living on top of it for awhile.

I live in the high desert where the temperatures are extreme, but the humidity is low. I change out boots for sandals from my under bed storage, and move my vests to the spare room closet. I think that’s it.

I’ve spent nearly all my life in warm climates - Florida, Okinawa, Atlanta. It’s only in recent years that I’ve had to do any kind of seasonal “change-out” in my wardrobe, because we’re spending more time in different climates - Toronto, Chicago, NYC, Florida, checking in with older family members.

Most of my wardrobe is season-less and wearable year-round in Atlanta. I have a small very-hot-weather capsule of linen, swim, summer bags and sandals, and another small capsule of cashmere sweaters, thermals, winter scarves, etc.

My coat and jacket collection is another thing entirely. It’s my Achilles heel.

I store our off-season clothing, occasion wear and the BF’s infrequently-needed business wardrobe in the spare bedroom closet. We have one plastic bin apiece for anything that doesn’t require hanging. It’s how I (kind of) rein myself in.

I do my big switchovers around Spring and Fall Equinox, when I know I’m probably not going to have to dig a cashmere sweater back out of the closet, or find a linen dress to wear.

On cross-quarter days and the Solstices, I do mini-edits of my closet and the off-season closet, mull and cull, and check what I have against ideas I want to try, and shopping lists I’ve made . This is pretty fast, not more than a couple of hours. It’s an enjoyable way to think through the colors and outfits I’d like to wear for the next mini-season.

Carol I am envious! Your New Mexico weather sounds very much like Johannesburg, which I very much miss (the pleasant and stable weather that is).

April We had very different weather this year on the Black Sea to previous ones. We had a milder winter and it was warmer earlier. So two months ago I packed away my heavy knits (which never really got worn) and heavy boots, and brought out some Spring clothes, like long sleeve Tees and button downs. Some jackets got washed. Yesterday the weather seems to have turned into summer so I brought out the summer clothes and sandals. Now to wash all the windows - uggh ;) I do hate house work.

Go summer! With a clean grill! :)
I switch my wardrobe. So, a lot of washing, folding, moving and organizing. Also washing puffers and packing away all coats and jackets.
I airdry or wash duvets before storing them.
The last weekend was a long weekend (3 days) in Canada. Here, in my city it means "planting weekend". Common for people to open their cottages at this time. I don't have a cottage but this is a weekend when we clean decks, take summer furniture out and plants annual flowers.
Very busy time! But it comes with the full summer weather this year so I love it.

I have packed away my sweaters and winter scarves with bars of scented soap in layers. Out come the t-shirts and shorts and summer tops smelling of sandalwood and jasmine! I stuff my boots with tissue and put them back in their boxes or in larger clear plastic containers. The opposite happens with sandals and I greeted each pair with pleasure.

I also do a sock clearout since I accumulate more each season. NO NEW SOCKS THIS YEAR.

My winter only clothes get cleaned and stored on the top shelf in baskets and my summer only things are hung in my closet. I also have a year round group of clothes, mostly essentials that span the seasons and stay in the closet all year round. It's fun to change over and get a different set of clothes for winter/spring and summer/fall.

Well...I live in a pretty darn good climate, which is New Mexico. Lots of sun, dry...and many mild-to-warm days of the year. You can be good most days with shorts, a skirt or jeans. Take your pick.

In terms of summer prep, I probably still have some work to do. I have some breezy pants, a couple of "meh" skirts, a solid sun dress or two...and I really need to find some shorts or capris that work. But at least I have enough to get started.

Actually we hired a lovely college student who does this for a summer job to take care of the grill.

Something had thought about nesting in there for sure (rodent? that's usually the case.) Where we live, we have to have a metal spring around the flexible propane tube so the rodents can't chew through it. Learned that one the hard way.

SF, you remind me that I also wash my parkas, though they are getting less use with the milder winters we've been having.

And I trade out the contents of my mudroom cubby from winter to lightweight, demoting the heavy stuff to the coat closet since the cubby only has two hooks. Heavy gloves and scarves go in a storage basket in mudroom. Mudroom is on the way out to garage or yard, so it's the grab-and-go place.

Wow, the grill looks great. Did you do that or take it somewhere?

It seems like Spring lasts only a week or two before we get summer weather so I don’t bother with Spring clothes anymore, I jump from Winter clothes to Summer clothes. It’s already been 90F here! In transition I clean any wool/cashmere, wash my coats and attend to any maintenance needs, etc. Between the master closet and coat closet there is space for everything so I don’t have to move things around. I have a small holding zone that I will review and may cull some items or pull some out for the season.

We've been going back and forth between cool rainy spring (60s) and mild summer (mid 80s) for the last month or so. Now the humidity is creeping up, so a/c on, and figure it'll stay summer now.
Finally got out on paddleboard last week, been doing a lot of yard and trail work, and refreshed my porch plant collection Also returning to some activities that I had dropped for a while (Zumba, writers group, archery).

On the U.S. East coast, we are still in a wet spring. A few days that feel like deep summer, mostly the lovely shift from 60 at night to 80 in the day.

I don't really change out wardrobe, but I have my rituals: get the woolen outerwear dry-cleaned to avoid moths, move the snow boots from the mudroom to a high shelf in the coat closet, check on whether dear little Bodie has rendered another pair of my summer indoor shoes (Reef flipflops) unwearable with his habit of carrying them around.

Bonus fun fact: we got our grill deep-cleaned yesterday (who knew that was a thing) and it is ready for the tofu, vegetables, and whatever meat Mr. A wants. His comment when he saw the before and after: "This brings tears to my eyes!"
