I'm not a pear, nor is my WH ratio even close to under 7, but I have this problem anyway cause my butt is so perky. That might be it. I can't wear a rise below 13" and I often have a waistband that gapes. My ideal back rise is 14-15. The fact that I'm petite, shortwaisted, and don't have exceptionally curvy hips is secondary. I need to cover up that butt! Like the other girls have mentioned, a curved waistband is best. I like around 10" in the front, and nothing under 9".

If you have a tiny waist (i.e., pretty pear shape with waist/hip ratio under 0.7), we learned this tip on our Saturday trip: you simply need to have the waistband taken in a pinch in the back!!

My DD has this issue - no matter what jeans she tries, no matter how low or high the rise. It's because she has such a teeny-tiny waist!! The sales people showed us how just taking them in a pinch at the waist solves this issue completely.

Since they are not comfortable and driving you crazy, then they are not keepers. Even if you wore a long shirt that covered your business, you'd still feel the pants riding too low.

I second Becky on the contoured waist band thing, I like all of my jeans to be high in the back even if they are somewhat low in the front. The proper length top helps too. If I am not sure what the tops will do when I sit down, I wear an extra-long ( just a bit above the crotch) cami underneath.

Do you need a higher rise in the back than in the front (contour waistband)? I have a generous booty and I find jeans with a higher back rise fit me better. Is your top long enough to wear with pants? Your pants tops should be 1-3 inches above the crotch point. Maybe you are wearing a top that is a better length to wear with a skirt. If the jeans are just uncomfortable overall because of this issue, I certainly wouldn't keep them. You'll never wear them if the issue can't be resolved.

Well, it either means your shirt is too short, or the rise of the jeans is too low. I personally avoid low rise jeans because of this very thing. It's just not very comfortable for me. I always test this out before purchasing jeans by sitting down in the fitting room (or if there is no seat, just squatting to see what they do, how they stretch, etc). If it's driving you crazy, then I'd say toss them. If you have a pair of pants that you love the fit and how they feel when you sit down, then measure the back and front rise of those and look for jeans that have a similar rise. Do you know how to do that? For me, at least an 8" front rise and 13" back rise is optimal.
