Since your arms are basically stuck together during each row, you'll have to knit a row, drink some wine, knit another row, drink some more wine, etc. Yay, Susie! Can't wait to see what you do. Since you knit, you probably figured this out (but I was clueless, so I'll tell you anyway). The double wrap infinity scarf that I made was 12 stitches across by 30 rows of stitches. I used 2 skeins of ----6 weight----yarn. It probably took a bit over half of each skein, maybe 60%. Each skein was just over 100 yards, so there's enough left to also do a single wrap infinity scarf for your daughter. Have fun! My daughter wants one in black for a stocking stuffer, so I'm back to the craft store today. Perhaps I'll try abc's method for this one tonight! Kudos to your daughter for her entrepreneurial spirit! amiable on "." https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/idle-hands-youtube#post-1412119 Tue, 16 Dec 2014 22:53:22 +0000 amiable 1412119@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ And as far as arm-knitting verses finger knitting (my kids do both).  Arm-knitting is more easily comparable to knitting with needles - you just use your arms as the needles (and it's much, much easier that way!).  Finger knitting is a lot like those knitting looms (knitting nellies?) - it's technically the same process as knitting, but it feels completely different when you're actually performing the knitting.  Neither arm-knitting nor finger-knitting requires special equipment, and they're both easy.   I have a terrible time with 3d visualization, and it took me a while to get started with arm-knitting.  But like carter says, after about the second row, it's the easiest thing in the world.  You'll end up wanting one in every color, because the effort is so low.  And if you watch for sales, so is the price. Most of my daughter's scarves have cost below $5 to make - and she sells them for $8 each. amiable on "." https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/idle-hands-youtube#post-1412115 Tue, 16 Dec 2014 22:45:11 +0000 amiable 1412115@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ My 10-year-old daughter started making these about 6 weeks ago with the goal of selling them for double the cost of the yarn in order to earn money to attend camp next summer.  She wanted to earn $70.  (Camp costs $140, and we told her that to attend, she had to find a way to pay half herself).  I bought her first two skeins of yarn, and we watched that youtube video together dozens of times (and enlisted the help of my mom to cast on).  After that, she's paid for all of her own yarn, and knit the scarves with no help from me. The most important thing is to buy the thick yarn ( a 6 weight). The rest is pretty much autopilot after the first couple rows. Each skein was $5.49. This is a double wrap infinity with 30 rows of stitches, 12 stitches across. I have enough yarn left to do a wide, fluffy muffler. So, $11 for maybe a couple hours entertainment and 2 scarves...not bad.
