It would indeed look fun over the right coat!

And is it possible that the fastener's stitching could be undone/redone with a simple button and loop or hook and eye so that you could attach different "brooches" (including this florette) at will? It would look so different with different fasteners and would open more styling opportunities.

Otherwise, I would say, how about trying a pair of coloured jeans with it?

I had a very cute black one that I never wore for the same reasons you mention. I showed it to a friend and she immediately threw it on OVER her red coat and it looked just great.
I never would have thought to do that.

I'm thinking of how that would look over a scoop-neck white tee, worn with a rhinestone necklace, somewhat faded skinny jeans, and black heels....

Thank you Cheryl and DonnaF for your ideas. Cheryl, I'll have to see if I have something white that will work; I don't have a white blouse at the moment, but I love the idea. Donna, to answer your question, the fastener w/rose is sewn on, so I'm limited to working with those colors. The dotty top sounds cute!

How about with colored jeans as bright as the pink flower fastener? Or with dotty pants or top? I'm thinking fairly saturated colors. Unfaded denim would work if it read fairly blue vs. black/graysish/brownish.

Is there any way to swap out the fastener? If you could change up the fastener in various ways, that might give you tons of flexibility.

Very cute. I'm super casual so I would wear it with black jeans or pants and a simple long sleeve top. I think it would look great with grey slacks too. I think it might even look good over a crisp white blouse.

I struggle with my taste (dress-up) vs. my lifestyle (casual).

A couple of years ago, I fell in love with this capelet that I found in a boutique on Cape Cod. Since we don't tend to have elegant holiday parties to go to, I've worn it on Christmas with a black ribbed turtleneck and wide-legged trouser pants. Do you have any other suggestions for ways I might dress this down so it can come out of my closet a little more? It has a heavy weight to it so is nice and warm, but I'd still have to wear my winter coat over it when outside.
