Zaeobi - very flexible!! I just chose this as it is a common theme and I saw two you tube videos about how to style these pieces. You could do a work from home outfit that gives you joy as another option.

I always enjoy the challenges as it makes me look at my wardrobe in a different way.

@Joy glad to hear it's flexible. To be honest, I don't wear many half sleeved t-shirts, so I'm hoping that my 3/4 sleeved cotton tops or true t-shirts/ tank tops layered underneath cardigans will still be able to count! True jeans are a little problematic in my hot & sticky weather, but maybe I could combine my faux 't-shirts' into my WFH outfits for a double challenge

I'm in for the jeans and tee challenge! Probably with denim shorts if I manage to do it in the following days of hot weekend... My WFH looks are currently quite simple, they bring me joy but I think you'll all have seen them before.

Zaeobi, you can decide what you want to do. With my tee challenge, I will probably not post until early next week and put several outfits into one post. Make it what you want it to be. My goal is to find several ways I can wear tee shirts or find out if I should wear them at all. Today I pulled out several possible tees and found that I have way more than I thought I did given that any sort tee was too warm or too cold always in my old climate and that I don’t really care for knits. I wore a. very old silk woven one today..

Silly question, but how does a Style Challenge work? I've never participated before but am interested in WFH & trying out the casual shirt with denim look (indoors - jeans are too thick for our current weather haha). I may not have time to post about it until this weekend or early next week, though - is that OK?

I will go with the tee idea as I have never worn them much and should. I’m not sure about the denim part as I still am looking for some denim replacements for my jeans and jean skirt that no longer work for me.

Yes, Sal, those were good ideas. Another I have been thinking about is to pack a suitcase and see if I can live out of it for a month. I know I will get sick of the items but it forces creativity. (and gives essentials a workout), but an imaginary trip sounds good right now when there is no where to go.. again, summer clothes could be easier than cold weather items.

I have done that one a couple of times too Joy - once in April I think and once in July...(July was easier as it was winter all month whereas April starts as a hot month and ends as a cold one usually here).

Last August I did a month of wearing all my winter clothes at least once. That was also quite fun. Definitely good ways to see the hard working and the lazy pieces in the wardrobe.

A challenge about this time of year in the past that I found valuable was 30/30. Thirty items from the closet for 30 days. I think this was to include accessories. Someone had a modified version where they started with just one outfit and added pieces as needed or exchanged pieces for others in the closet (often due to weather changes). One could make their own rules but it meant seeing how few items you could manage with for a month. I know I learned a lot. We kept track of how many times an item was worn during this time. Since July has 31 days it could be 31 items. For me it was a lot like RunCarla’s Style It Forward challenge since pieces were reworn.

Okay how about either

1) Develop two at home outfits that give you joy OR

2) Develop two outfits based on denim and a tee that represent your style. It could be a denim skirt, jeans or shorts and it could be a knit tee or a woven tee....

Post them to the forum over the next week on your own thread.

I will try to do that one! I can't start until Wednesday because I am actually (and ironically) not at home right now, but in Vancouver closing up our rental.

But a wfh uniform I got! Athleta skort and tank top + birks When the ripskirt arrives it will probably go into the mix. Desk to trails is where it's at!

Got plenty for holiday parties- but parties are so 2019- sigh :/ Archery with my neighbors is the closest these days!

What Torontogirl and Jenn said! Things are opening up here, but I am still too nervous to go out-out. We decided to increase our bubble by adding a family we've been friends with for a while, only to find out when we went over for our first socially distant BYOP(icnic) that they had also been hanging out with their former nanny (who commutes from a couple of counties over), and two sets of in-laws; one from out of state. UGH. :(

Anyway, I could use a kick in the pants (or jeans or shorts) to hold me accountable to put on real clothes. :D

I actually like your idea of a holiday challenge of sorts... creating an outfit or two for a fantasy situation and seeing whether we have pieces to complete it would be interesting. Like a make-believe dress up party! Or, maybe I've just gone completely mad. Highly likely...

Great ideas Sal, and others! The challenge can evolve into anything that feels right for now.

I like the jeans and tee idea. Shorts instead of jeans for others, maybe?

I like Brooklyn's lifting spirits challenge too.

As Jenn said: "reopening here and still no end to the virus risk in sight"

In Seattle WA, we have JUST entered phase 2:

The second phase allows restaurants and taverns to operate at half capacity with seating restrictions; hair and nail salons, barber shops, tattoo parlors and pet groomers to operate at half capacity; and retail stores to allow in-store purchases at 30% capacity. Domestic service providers such as house cleaners and nannies can return to work, with restrictions, as can manufacturers, construction workers and real estate agents. Phase 2 also allows additional outdoor recreation, indoor religious services with restrictions, and one gathering per week with no more than five people from outside a single household.

In the US, it's all still quite hectic.

I like the idea even though I’m not often one to join in challenges. It’s getting hot here, so not likely I’ll want to do much involving jeans, but I could stand to try to step up my at-home game.

I think the Holiday one is not right for now....another time.

I wasn’t sure I could do this as I still go out to work. But I could possibly do the jeans and a tee one. I hardly wear jeans but did one day last week. I am trying to wear my least comfortable ones a bit more - my NYDJs.
Otherwise Brooklyn’s lifting spirits idea is nice- sounds like we may collectively need it.

Thinking about this Sally. It's difficult with COVID and the seasonal differences in the forum.

I think doing an "at home" thing is a good idea - with so many people at home at the moment. What about a challenge to make your "at home" look feel more special/joyful? It doesn't have to be adding something that makes it feel dressier. It could be just a challenge to wear something or add/change something to/about your usual outfit in a way that lifts your spirits.

Just a thought!

Another idea, but a bit different.

Mid Winter/Mid Summer Holiday Party.

Put on a seasonal party outfit and share it with the forum, along with what you are going to drink or eat.

EDIT:

Forum Challenge

To try and have some fun in this grim 2020 there are a couple of options for a forum challenge

Either:

1) Develop two at home outfits that give you joy

OR

2) Develop two outfits based on "denim and a tee" that represent your style. It could be a denim skirt, jeans or shorts and it could be a knit tee or a woven tee....

You can use as a chance to demonstrate your own style, or to try and develop a few simple looks that work for you and get forum ideas. I know it is mid winter here - and mid summer for many of you - but I am sure we can make it work.

Post them to the forum over the next week or so on your own thread.

Hi All

There has been some discussion about a forum challenge in other threads. I know some of us have been doing the holding zone review as one idea.

I don't have anything fixed in mind but here are two ideas to riff on..

Developing three stylish at home options (or maybe an at home uniform)

Inspired by...... taking a piece and building a look or looks around it. I saw two youtube videos with Alyssa Beltempo and Marie Anne Lecoeur where they took jeans and a white tee and came up with five Italian and French looks. We could take jeans and a tee and come up with three great versions true to our own style?

I have been doing a couple of small challenges myself - trying to wear my scarves and tie them in a better fashion, and I have really honed down my essentials and written them out....to see where my gaps really are. I will post about this seperately.

Cheers
Sally
