Much closer to your inspiration. I love Liz's suggestions for then loosening it up a bit more.

The devil is in the details, as they say. Sometimes those details are tough to analyze. When I joined the forum I think it took me a couple of years before I could see some of the subtle tricks. But it gets a lot easier over time.

I think 5 & 6 are much closer -- well done!

A subtle difference I see is that the inspiration photos have a slouchy, "bit of dare devil" tone to them. If that's part of what appeals to you, some small details could push your outfits more in that direction:

* Instead of tidily buckling the white braided belt, casually loop it like she's done hers.

* Radically scrunch your jacket sleeves, like she does.

* blouse your tucked tops, rather than tucking them smoothly and neatly.

* Instead of wearing the pearls as necklaces, wrap one or two of those pearl necklaces around your wrist for a bracelet.

I like these, especially the white jeans look. I think you nailed that one. I also like the last one, the jacket looks great.

I must look her up.

Hoping some of you can revisit these. I know they're not quite right, but don't know where to go from here to achieve the look. Thanks!

I like the pants and those shoes. The t shirt and belt fits in the outfit too. Well done and good choice of icon.

I think you have found your inner Jeanne :)

Don't change the 80s St John. That's iconic. Too much value there.

Thanks so much for the support, Angie and Suz. I'm going to play with this some more, pay better attention to copying exactly what's in the inspiration photo, and see if I can get this right. Wearing my entire closet fashionably (even when the pieces may not be obvious go-togethers) is a kind of fashion goal. I may be back with more pics this week.

Column, I like what you did from the waist down. Very pretty shoes, and I'm high fiving Suz.

I can't see the outfit well enough to give you a fair assessment of the '80s jacket and the top under it. But I enjoyed the experiment, and your fashion spirit is in the right place.

My eye went straight to the pretty shoes!! :)

I think you did find your inner Jeanne! To experiment more, maybe try high contrast with white bottoms (as she does in #2) or a column of colour (ha, no pun intended!) with a vivid jacket over top!

I think the stripes work just fine in your version and are a fun pattern mix with the footwear.

Column on "Take Two (new photos): Outfit lab opinions?"

So I'm taking Suz's advice and trying to copy Jeanne's inspiration photos more precisely. I think I overdid the jewelry in the black/white ensemble (need something more swingy and casual--even if single strand pearls--rather than the Chanel look in order to offset the sweater). And again, not sure jewelry is the right choice for the bright jacket over tonal column. Also, I show two shoes w/red jacket--is the snakeskin too much? Is this better/am I closer? What else do I need to tweak--belts? half tucks? Comments welcome!

My style inspiration comes from Jeanne at gracefully50.com: https://gracefully50.com/outfits/ She has quit blogging, and I have mentioned her before on the forum, but Jeanne is the woman who made me believe women could continue to look cool and hip even as they age. Jeanne's closet is enviable, but it is her mix of high and low I love best--particularly when she pairs casual pants and tees with dressy jackets and shoes. Her look is also "ethical fashion," in that it is a mix of new and shop-your-closet finds. That's also what I loved so much about Angie's spontaneous gillet look in-store: the aristocratic gillet over two denim pieces.

So my question to you, dear forum readers, is: Did I find my own inner Jeanne? Is this look still current? Do the competing necklines bother you, or does the combo of solid and stripes make it ok? What about shoulder pads (still in on the old 80s St. John jacket--but I fear shoulders will slump without them)? I might add pearls or a long mixed metal pendant to finish off the look.

Thank you for your comments!
