Plus, the cup size is relative to the band size. So the absolute, uh, "volume" that a 32D size cup will hold may actually be close to your old size!

Merwoman, I can bet you're not a 36A.

I just had my second (and much better) fitting and came away a 30C. Still small, obviously! But it matters even if you are small.

KC - good for you!!! It makes a difference to have good fitting bras!

Merwoman -- I most often wore a 36A but if I measure, I should be in a 32C or 32D. Armed with this info I am going to get out and find some better fitting bras!

Gaylene is bang on. Very few changes make as great a difference in how a woman looks and feels than a great fitting bra.

Congrats on the successful fitting.

This is so inspiring! I'm thinking I should follow your lead and have a real bra fitting - I think I'm a 36A...but maybe not?

Good for you! I've noticed when the band gets that much smaller, the cup size goes up easily, and even though I'm at a 30D now (I think), I definitely don't have what most men would picture as "D-cup" boobs! On a 30 band they are still small. On a 36 or 38 would be different. Enjoy your new undies!

Yay! Now that you know that you love that brand and style, it would be easy to find on eBay for 1/3 - 1/2 the retail price. Check often, as inventory changes a lot. If you go that route, just make sure the style #/name matches what you have and that the seller has excellent feedback. Ive saved a lot of money buying additional bras that way.....

*high five* from another 32D (who at one point was wearing a 36B).

I agree with Gaylene that it's not vanity sizing - the band and cup sizes change together, so if you go down in band size, it makes sense that you go up in cup size.

I just bought my most expensive bra ever, too, but then I realized that in terms of CPW (cost per wear), it will probably become the least expensive thing I own! That made me feel much better. So, enjoy!

Probably more to do with correct sizing than vanity sizing. Most people don't wear the right size band, mostly because they figure that a tighter band will be uncomfortable. Actually the support comes from the band, so a snug fit is imperative if you want support. As you go down in band size, you need to go up in cup size to accommodate the breast tissue, so your old A cup would have to be a C or D cup in your correct size. Besides gaining support, most of us also find that our clothes fit better when we are in the right size because everything gets positioned correctly.

Enough with the lecture, though. I know that once I had my bra fitting, I couldn't understand why I spent so many years just grabbing any old bra off the rack. It's so much more fun to wear gorgeous lingerie that enhances your shape, and, once I modeled my new undies for my husband, he became quite enthusiastic about the whole thing. He was the one encouraging me to buy matching sets! LOL

Congrats on your first real bra fitting! That sounds about right, most of us wear bigger band and smaller cup size than we should. My story is quite similar: I thought I was about 34A , went through 32C phase and ended up being 30 D. Enjoy your new beautiful fitting undergarments.

I decided to “bite the bullet” and go to a lingerie store for a real bra fitting. All my bras were past their prime and ill-fitting, due to weight loss and hormonal changes in the past few years.

I thought I was a 36A, but it turns out I’m a 32D! What? Vanity sizing perhaps? Both bras I purchased are French (Chantelle and Lou brands) and were significantly more than what I usually pay at TJ Maxx or Kohls. But they are lovely and fit like a dream.

I also bought a pair of matching panties and spent about $230 – gulp! I’m going to model the lingerie for dear hubby (as a distraction) before I break the news as to how much I spent!
