LOL where are you located anyway (I can see you're in Canada too!). Toronto hipster girls have the short hair thing going. I was seen once in a purple button-down and a friend of mine said I was so hipster-western. I was like... GAAAH! Not what I was going for!

Wait what??? parts of your head being shaved? LOL

I had part of my hair shaved before. Even as far as a faux-hawk. I realized despite my edgy/RATE inclinations, it's just not me.

HAHA; hipsters here all have long hair - so no confusion there :)

It took me a few tries to get used to cutting my own hair, but I've been doing it for years! I had a Terrible Hair Cutting Incident Involving Parts of My Head Being Shaved, so after that, I don't trust anyone with clippers except myself

@lyn* You cut your own hair??? Wow! How do you do that? I can't even trust myself with a comb/brush. I'd seriously go BALD if I was brave enough. I can't do hair.

I don't know about guys liking long hair My partner loves short hair and I was even a bit worried that he might not find me attractive when I was growing my hair out last year. We've been together for a long time, so it wasn't happening

I actually know a lot of guys who like shorter hair on women You have the features to pull it off, so stick with it You'll likely find a guy that likes you!

One thing I hated when having a pixie cut though is that people called me a "hipster" a lot. UUUGH so not the style I'm going for -_- I kinda like Ginnifer Goodwin's or Michelle William's looks.

@Lyn* why do you get nagged about your hair? And make sure you get a good hairdresser when growing out the hair. The in-between awkward growing stages of a pixie is ANNOYING!

I think pixie suits you well so I would go for it. As for how to style it: make sure you find a good hairdreser because if pixie is cut well you don't really need to style it much. I don't even airblow my short cut for the first 3 weeks as it keeps the shape by itself.

My hair has been shorter than yours for the last dozen or more years, but next year I want to grow it out to a bob, sort of like yours but much, much, much more RATE and spikey. I searched for photos on the internet and found hundreds and hundreds of short hair images on a Japanese site. I have found that a mister is my friend. I mist my hair if I don't shower until later in the day or if my hair otherwise looks off. Instead of stinky hair products, I use Fruit of the Earth aloe vera gel to style my hair. It has fewer additives than other aloe vera brands and it does not contain alcohol so is not drying and gives my hair a bit of a shine. Plus, it can be used on sunburns and the like! I have the world's coarsest hair, the kind that can give you slivers if it gets under your skin, so I don't know if FOTE will work for everyone. I understand that if one has skin that tends to break out from various skin or hair products, FOTE is pretty safe that way.

I love the pixie! Some hairdressers are better than others with short haircuts. Why not keep an eye out for women with beautiful short hair and ask them where they get it cut? People frequently ask me about my haircut, and they're surprised that I go to an inexpensive place. It's all about the hairdresser! I have followed mine all over town for more than a decade.

Thank you ladies!!!

Yeah the back of the neck thing just looks really weird/awkward in pictures, but it's probably because I was younger and don't really have a feel for what works or doesn't for me. I really miss the fuss-free look of the pixie and how I can just focus on makeup (I've never been good with hair).

Again, thanks for the confidence boost ladies!

I have a kind of bump at the bottom of my neck too. I think it's actually a normal thing some people have and others don't. I bet nobody really notices it, but I understand how we can see something about ourselves and begin to feel very self-conscious about it. I think you look great in a pixie cut and with longer hair. If you feel better in a pixie, go for it! I have short hair (longish pixie, I guess). I have my stylist trim my hairline on the back of my neck so it starts higher. If it comes down too low (where it starts naturally), I feel like I have no neck. It might be something to consider, depending on the cut you get.

I love pixie cuts - they never go out of style and I think are very feminine looking. Of course I might be biased since I have one myself! In looking at the pictures, you have such a pretty face and I think the short hair really shows it off beautifully. I say go for it!

I am a total enabler here - go for it!

(I would be sporting a similar style myself if it wasn't for the fact that I promised the hubster I'd grow my hair so I can wear a ponytail. I'm itching to go short again but a promise is a promise!)

I also think it really, really suits you too - both pics are good but #1 is the stand-out style for me.

Fantastic--love, love, love the pixie cut on you. I honestly can't tell what you're worried about with your neck.

I have had short hair for the majority of my adult life--right now I have a quite short pixie similar to Angie's. My hair is fine and straight, so your mileage may vary, but I find styling to be an absolute breeze. I don't blowdry at all--I just comb my hair in the general direction I want it to go, get dressed or have a cup of coffee, and return to the mirror about 15 minutes later. At that point, my hair is mostly dry. I use a styling cream or leave-in conditioner (a small to medium dab rubbed between my hands) to finger comb the style into shape. That's it. If I happen to be in front of a mirror later in the day, I sometimes fix it up by using damp hands to finger comb again.

It's hard to imagine how you could have a really bad hair day with a pixie, especially if you like a rough, tousled look. You have such a pretty face--just love that pixie fringe pushed to the side on you.

You look good in both, but the pixie is stunning on you. It makes your features really pop. I don't notice your neck in the slightest. I say go for it! If you keep it long maybe think about cutting your bangs much shorter to make the most out of your perfect eyebrows!

Hi. The cut is adorable. Pic2 is nice, but not in the same league.

I have that similar hump in the back. I got used to it and think it's just how I'm built. I doubt others notice that much.

Oops, meant to add! How I style my hair when I want a rough around the edges look:

Towel-dry and work a golf-ball size amount of volumising mousse through my hair (which is very fine and straight).
Tip my head over and roughly blow-dry it until it's nearly dry.
Head back up! And use my hands to arrange the top (longer) layers and fluff/spike out the back short layers. It sort of sets in place as it cools down. Sometimes I use a bit of a creamy-style gel to make the spiky bits more.. spikier... or make a sticky-uppy bit sit where I want.

During the day if I'm in front of a mirror in the ladies room I might give it another fluff and adjust, as it settles down a bit after a few hours.

I really think you should try the pixie cut again. It looks fab on you - sophisticated and youthful. You're right that it highlights your face and that your face is a great feature. The bob in picture two is nice, but it's not in the same league as the pixie.

The back of neck thing you mention isn't obvious to me in that photo. Even if it were, I don't think keeping a haircut that irritates you in every other way is the solution to that issue.

I've got a very short haircut and it took me a little while to get the hang of styling it too. I've had it for 4 years now and I still ask my hairdresser for tips and advice about it when I see her.

Do you trust your hairdresser enough to chat with them about this? Some are better at problem-solving than others. I would tell him or her what you've told us: how much you loved the old pixie style, but didn't know how to style it in the amount of time you have. They should give you a couple of suggestions and show you how to do at least one of them.

Hi ladies!

I used to sport a pixie cut. For three years, in fact, since 2008. I loved how low maintenance it is (6 week intervals on cuts aside), and I love how it focuses on my face, which is what I feel is my best feature. The pixie is gone now as I spent all of 2011 growing my hair to 2 inches past shoulder length and it's annoying me: maintenance, more obvious oiliness, length, hair getting in the way of ANYTHING... Strange because before 2008, I've mainly worn my hair long and always felt sexy in it. But now as I grow it, I just don't feel that way anymore. In fact, I feel almost too "restricted" because my hair gets in the way all the time! (even ponytails get in the way!)

I only had TWO reasons why I grew my hair:

1) My short neck is making me feel incredibly self-conscious.
Remember how I told you about my camera-phobia? Every picture I've seen makes me look unbelievably bigger than I normally am - because of the short neck and the unusual back fat at the base of the neck (not a dowager's curve though).

2) I never quite figured out how to style my pixie.
A bad hair day is a REALLY BAD hair day. Most of the time, my hair is neat. Sometimes, it's just a mess! I like getting creative and spiking it up sometimes (because my style is a bit more rough around the edges as opposed to polished), but it looks like I just woke up - and not in a good way!

I would really really love to go back but I fear that I probably will run into the same mess again. I haven't felt beautiful/sexy in AGES, so I want to make a conscious effort to do this by selecting a haircut that suits my lifestyle (on-the-go)/personality (lazy/low maintenance) and my best features.

I have pics in the bottom to show what I looked like with a pixie (1 - notice the weird back curve at the base of my neck?) - and my most recent haircut (2 - it's longer now though). I'm wondering if I should change my look or maintain what I have but find lower maintenance alternatives.

Thanks so much!
