I used to wear a suit every day to work which included both pants and skirts. Over the years my work environment changed to become more and more casual and now I work from home - for the same company. I still have 3 suits in my closet that survived the many purges. 2 pants suits and one skirt suit. Until this year I wore the blazer of the skirt suit when I wanted to dress up my jeans. The pant suit I would wear several times per year for various events. Now I have gained a few pounds I cannot fit into them. I tried to wear the blazer just this week and was so disappointed. I may replace it because it is so nice to have a capsule that you can depend on. I grew up wearing a suit as my school uniform and, after several years' break in college wear, was thrilled when I got to wear a suit every day to work. Suits made it so easy for someone like me, with no sense of fashion, to get dressed. My suiting up lasted until the early 2000s when a colleague complained that I was overdressed and intimidating clients. I looked around me and realised dress codes had changed. My suits weren't dated in style, but wearing them made me feel old and out of touch. I still buy suits but don't wear them much. I've fallen prey to comfort dressing and don't find the ones I loved -- crisp and woven -- comfortable on a daily basis. If I do find this fantasy suit and would wear it to church, everyone would assume that I was going some place after church where dressier attire was required. But no one would scoff at me, as they are all very good when it comes to letting everyone enjoy their personal preferences. My husband wears a coat and tie EVERY Sunday but no one else does. He says he does it because he does not want a visitor to show up wearing a tie and feeling out of place. Spring and Fall always have me wishing for that boucle/tweed. I was able to try on a few of Angie's picks for jackets but wasn't interested in any with metallics woven in) and didn't necessarily want full lining. You know -- multi-colored threads woven together in a glorious pattern, collarless jacket with a no-close front, matching skirt (either pencil or with some lovely large pleats on the front side). You get the picture.</p> <p>The 'why' of this relates to 'where' I would wear it. I envision musical concerts, theatre...and also using the jacket with informal pieces like denim jeans, and the skirt with solid-colored blouses in fabrics ranging from crepe to cotton. My fantasy about this suit probably comes from traveling in France and seeing how much CPW the French women get out of their suits.</p> <p>Am I delusional? What's come over me? Does anyone else suffer from this suit-lust??? </p>
