Perhaps you need to have an idea of what a good bag capsule entails. How many would be optimal? What bases should be covered? I'm in flux right now, too. I had to realize that my goal this summer is just to learn what I like in bags, and what "quality" in a bag means to me. I'm also trying to think about what "kind" of bags I would use regularly

1. Special occasion bag (I purchased this recently at DSW --- a larger envelope clutch with detachable strap)
2. Good size neutral cross body for travel
3. messenger bag more urban travel size tote for travel or "city" days, when I might be carting my laptop or iPad.
4. Summer casual bag

Well, that's a partial list. I'm thinking I might thrive with 5-6 bags in my wardrobe, some "good leather" and some more playful and fun, like the summer bag. Some women have 1 to 2. For others, bags and shoes are their love language --- their "art.' have friends who have more than 15 expensive bags, but still use them all.

I like your idea of doing "recon." Scout out the territory in the stores and in your closet, too!

Great job on self discipline! You and I are in the same place style-wise - trying to figure out where we're going. It doesn't make sense to spend lots until we know, right?

And I'm afraid of developing a similar addiction, so I'm staying away from bags altogether for a while

I think it is a lovely bag but also agree you've done the right thing for this stage of your style journey.

You already have three bags and given you are currently defining your style, this money will come in handy to buy a few statement pieces/workhorses when you feel ready.

I'm bag addicted too but I try not to spend over 100$ (we have here fabulous spanish leather bags, no big brands, but excelent quality).
I think you did the right thing, I have a cobalt blue bag and don't use much, well it depend on your wardrobe but the blue is limitative!

Jamie, I've been shopping sober (3 months now) while I try to figure where my style is going. I want a 'carefully curated and deliberately distilled' closet. This shopping trip was 'research' to recon all the new spring stuff that is coming in.

I didn't pick it up, because I'm concerned I might be developing a bag addiction. I do have a brown Coach bag (2007) that started it all, and a black Calvin Klein that are entirely serviceable. I have 3 other bags-purple, yellow, and a mainly cream.

I'm also wondering if 1- the cobalt trend is winding down or will it continue?, and 2- is colour block still on trend? ( I love C / B).

I can see why you were drawn to it, Runcarla. It's a cute bag. Just out of curiosity, what made you put it back? Thinking about that might help you determine whether you should return and purchase it. Also, using some of Angie's shopping guides that she has posted recently might also help out. Keep us posted!

I feel your pain, Runcarla. I nice did the exact same thing with a Michael Kors bag that was on sale for $189......walked around for an hour with it and then decided that I could live without it so I put it back.
So, if it will go with your current wardrobe and you can't live without it, go back an snap it up!

I walked around our local Winner's with this Charles Jourdan Angela bag in my cart for the better part of an hour while I looked at other things. All this week I've been playing with cobalt blue. (I'll do a WIW this weekend.). It is brown and cobalt with black handles and trim - all leather. I have a charcoal grey winter coat, and a black trench.

It was priced $400 but on sale for $199. I see it for sale on line for $275.

I put it back and walked away. Do you think I should go back?
