I had a pair of Ferragamo shoes some years back and they were very light and comfortable. In my opinion, some pricy brands are worth it and some aren't, you have to try it on and see for yourself. I have very hard time shopping for shoes because I had numerous foot injuiries in the past and lot of shoes just hurt, not to mention that I have narrow foot with very high arch. Bummer...But that means that I had to try pretty much every brand on the planet to find shoes that would be comfortable so if anyone ever wants inputs on any brand, I got it ;)
And Laura, $50 for Ferragamos is definately worth it, imo, you won't be sorry if you get these!

I am willing to pay more for shoes that I will wear a lot because I only have one pair of feet and they need to last me for many years. For shoes that I do less walking in, I'm not so particular, especially if they are the kind I may tire of quickly. Having said that, if you can find shoes that make your feet happy without the price tag, then you don't need to spend a lot. A couple of problems I find with cheaper shoes are: !) they often don't breath as well and my feet get really hot 2) they look old long before they're actually worn out. With more expensive shoes, the exterior will often outlast the interior.

Claire, that's just rude! This store had at least 10 different pairs of Ferragamos, but most were in smaller sizes; only one was a 10, and it was a peeptoe slide, which I'd never wear anyway so it made the decision to leave it there easy.

I used to work with an older European lady who had the best shoe collection - they were all ladylike and lovely and she wore them with knee-length wool skirts and blouses, and you could tell she took very good care of them. They had obviously been an investment and an investment which had paid off for years.

Someone in my area has a 7.5 Narrow foot and donates amazing Feragamos and other pricey brands to the Goodwill. I wear an 8 Medium .

Some really pricey shoes are totally worth it - some aren't. Depends on what you're looking for and what's important to you when it comes to footwear. It's important to know what you're paying for as well - some brands are just Veblen goods, but some are pricey because they're impeccably made, stunning, and built to last.

If there's a store near you that carries a high end brand - go try them on! Inspect them up close and decide for yourself. You don't need to buy anything, and in fact you might see them and feel them and decide that women who buy those things must be crazy!

...in the thrift store. They seemed nice enough, but since they were still $50 I left them for some other lucky soul. I have to say, I appreciate the fact that Ferragamo does make flats and low heels, unlike a lot of the other fancy Italian shoe lines. If anyone in the Bay Area is looking for Ferragamo shoes like old ladies wear, today is your lucky day.

(Are really pricey shoes worth it? I'm such a cheapskate but even I wonder about such things.)
