I haven't had any tailoring done yet, because I'm waiting to go to the Philly tailor in center city. But I am picking up dry cleaning tomorrow! I'm glad to have found a local dry cleaner that I trust to not lose my clothes, although I haven't given them any difficult stains to clean. The service is always courteous and all work is done on premise.

April, I'm sure Nordstrom inflates the prices compared to what I can get locally. The jacket was lined but the pants were not. The alterations were free with my Nordstrom card, so no big deal. I think my husband had some jeans hemmed at a dry cleaners for about $10. I have a blazer with piping on the sleeves that I want to take to someone close by and see what they will quote compared to the $50 that Nordstrom quoted.

Great alterations April - well done!

I have a pile of items to take to Wonder Woman - my red and my magenta blazers to have sleeves shortened, houndstooth blouse to have sleeves shortened and my thrifted flare jeans to have hemmed. Since it's +30 celcius these days, I'm not in too much of a rush though (lol)!

April, that is a great tip to get the pockets sewn on white long and leans. I am going to do the same.

JJS -- You bet it counts! Every little bit counts.

KL -- that does sound expensive. My dry cleaner charges $11 for hemming unlined pants, and a little more for lined pants. But shortening the sleeves on a lined jacket always costs more than you'd think possible -- not sure why that is since I don't sew, but I know that I often have jackets taken in at the waist, and that costs a lot less than shortening the sleeves.

Crickets over here....

Good for you!! I have a new pile of items for repair and possible alter. I did however finally empty my trunk of all outstanding drycleaning items. Does it count?

I just picked up my clothes from Nordstrom where I took advantage of the free alterations on NAS items and the $100 credit they give to card holders. I had 4 pants hemmed, sleeves shortened on my gap blazer and buttons moved on a coat from NAS (Thanks to Beth Ann for the suggestion!). It was my first experience using a tailor since I usually hem my pants myself. They did a great job, but it's expensive!! For hemming 2 pairs of pants and shortening the sleeves, it was $97. I think I'll stick to doing it myself when I can.

Well . . . when I went to do laundry I discovered my much loved paper bag dress has a rip right up the back seam. So, it *will* be going to get mended. So sad, but more importantly, did this happen while I was wearing it bowling and then to dinner in Tampa Sunday?? Likely, it will cost more than the dress itself ($8) but it's worth it because I love it.
I did put 3 more unloved orphans in the donate/consign pile today

Good job!

I do my own tailoring and plan to fix my new maroon skinnies today. They need waist darts, hemming, and the front pockets need their linings removed.

How are my fellow tailoring procrastinators doing with the goal of getting this stuff done?

I got back my silk tops last week, and this week I took in the two pairs of new white jeans seen here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....mendations. Both being hemmed, both having front pockets closed and linings removed, one having the waist taken in.

Getting this taken care of just feels so...virtuous. I'll be the one walking around with a halo.
