I found one, but they only had the pants a size up (maybe two even). I bought it anyway, and took it to a tailor right near where I bought it. For me, the fit problem was that the waist and seat fit was definitely too large so it was not staying up AND crinkling all funny in the crotch; he was able to quickly and easily fix 'em up so they fit just right by taking in the seat seam as well as a minor crotch alteration. As I've aged my bottom has become flat (dropped) so that dress pants usually make me look like there's a diaper under them. Forum member Shiny was especially helpful. One thing she said was to look for not much difference between front and back rise. These seem easiest to find in a low waist. Express Editor pants can work but they are cut at different rises and in different fabrics. If one doesn't work, try another style of Editors. I still have very few dress pants although they would work very well for days when I teach and usually sit on the floor.<br /> Altering pants in a larger size was a big waste of money for me. The crotch was even worse.<br /> Would a jean cut pant without contrasting stitching be dressy enough for work? I have found some of those at Nordstroms that work and look like dress pants (Focus brand, I'm not sure if it still exists) when I wear a top long enough to mostly cover the pockets. I used to wear dress pants but the fit was never great- they would be too tight or too loose depending on the time of day, or if I was doing a lot of walking, and low rise pants didn't work well because of my long rise, the inner button would painfully dig into me, the zip fly would add bulk where I wanted it least...<br /> Now that I'm at a heavier weight I have not managed to find a single pair of dress pants that I like in years, yet I can find plenty of jeans. If you're doing it on your own (which, in my experience, is not scary) just make a muslin first to nail down the fit. The features that make a bootcut fit work well on me in jeans (form fit for the bum and thighs with a taper to the ankle or skinny jeans with a slim fit all the way) is exactly what doesn't work for me in trousers. I go for: straight leg, wide leg and sometimes even a taper cut.</p> <p>5-Center crease. My trousers must have a crease down the center of the leg, this takes the eye to the crease in the middle and not the edges when you look at a leg in them. I always get trousers pressed with a crease.</p> <p>6-Go one size up. Therefore, they will display outfits that are colourful and enticing, but that would suit your grandmother. Don't over look such places for your tailored pants quest. I hear you loud and clear on WANTing the pants because they are what YOU prefer, never mind how hot the skirts. I have practicality issues with skirts, but it comes to the same thing. You want to feel great as well as look great.</p> <p>If you are serious about alterations, then yes, a good tailor CAN alter crotch fit. It's not impossible, but you need to find someone who is good with pants and preferably specializes (if they actually do custom-tailored suits, that's great --- you can get them to run up similar pairs as well, and they'll be better at the fitting from all the practice).</p> <p>But of course, said tailors can be nearly as hard to find as the pants, in the first place! So, take a breather, take a break --- then go try again. Maybe look at entirely different brands for a change? I actually knocked off one of my Karen Kane dresses because they fit so well. I haven't tried using the pattern yet though.</p> <p>I'm not sure about finding someone to knock off clothing for you though - I never tried it. After years of searching, I finally found dress pants that fit me last summer. They needed to be hemmed a bit, or at least I thought so at the time before PPL and before I bought my booties. Anyway, between the time I bought them and finished hemming them, I lost enough weight to make them not fit!!! I think cheaper pants are less forgiving of weight fluctuations, and paying a tailor would be more than I paid at Kohl's due to their sales. Moreover, the last time I used a tailor, I had gained weight by the time I finally got my stuff back and so the altered stuff didn't fit quite right. So I will keep these pants at the back of my closet should I have some fat months, and I will continue my search but for pants with a bit of stretch.</p> <p>As a stop gap, I found some dress pants at Macy's in their own brand. They fit, but are so crummy that they showed panty lines so I had to buy new underwear, too. Rae - to begin with you have a super fantastic style and body - I mean super! But, I think its dress pants in general. I really hate them myself and can't remember ever finding a pair that I felt good in. Just look at all of the different sizes and shapes of women who have responded to this thread. NO ONE thinks dress pants are easy - most of us have never found a pair that even come close to being 7's let alone 10's! So, get off of that bike and treat yourself to something like a massage instead - get all of that stress and frustration kneaded out of your body, put on one of your killer skirts tomorrow for work - and just trust that the perfect pair of dress pants will come to you when the time is right! In the meantime, BREATHE! </p>
