Kudos to not shopping. I always struggle not to buy when in NYC, I figure, I went through the effort to get there, I should pick up a little something. A bad habit.

Adda girl. I don't know that I would be so restrained. But I hear ya on taking off layers. I get bad static in my hair from doing that and en up walking out the store looking like I got an electric shock lol!

Another thing: Designer NYC shopping can be a little...hmm...sobering, perhaps, if one happens to not be a size 0 or 2. It always puts me off a bit when shops put out only the tiniest sizes on the racks, so I have to ask for my monstrous size 8 or whatever. Way to make an average-sized woman feel like an odd woman out.

I was in NYC this weekend too - how fun! I personally loved the crisp cold because the unusual heat in California has been leaving me craving some contrast. I spent most of the weekend at museums and theater things (I was there with an art group) so I didn't do my usual shopping binge. I did go by my favorite boutique, Oak (just a few blocks from where I stayed) and bought a tshirt that was on my spring inspiration list and almost gave in and bought the R13 crossover jeans... but I didn't. Phew.

I do think it was a combination of factors, because I have been more tempted by items I've discovered via YLF than things I've seen in stores lately. It's totally OK with me, because I do not *need* anything!

Wow -- that is very impressive!

I wonder if it has some relationship to your recent closet clean out and reorganization. Now you can see all the great stuff you have -- maybe the idea of adding feels less necessary.

Then again, it could be because the stores are pretty empty of good merchandise right now!

I'm impressed! Although my last trip to NYC I didn't buy much either. It helps to be fussy! (as she looks guiltily at eBay.)

Oh, Janet, too bad I didn't know in advance to tell you to check out the Urban Outfitters with the Tortoise & Blonde specs shop inside while in NYC. They have their own well trained hip young stylists (not UO employees) that help you pick the best frames for your face shape and coloring and scan your current eye prescription right on site. They have some really great tortoise shell specs, which I know you've been wanting to try, and a couple of my friends have gotten some fab eyewear there. It takes only about 5 days to receive your custom eyeglasses shipped out to your home or work.

Maybe our paths crossed...Hubs and I made our first trip to NYC this weekend. Weather was brutal, but I loved every minute of it. Comptoir des Contonniers in Soho put a healthy dent in my wallet ;)
Sorry you didn't find anything to tickle your fancy.

Yes, it surely is. Add in removing eyeglasses and worrying about curls going frizzy from having tops pulled over your head too many times, and it's enough to instigate a total shopping ban.

Hehe, I think the weather actually helped me save money. It's daunting to take off and put on so many layers of clothing in order to try something on.

Man, it was freezing in the city this weekend, wasn't it? I'm impressed that you escaped Soho without injuring a credit card or two. That's not easy! (If no fashion temptations present themselves, I am usually done in by the Moleskine store...)

...and came home without buying anything! Well, hubs did buy me a cute, cozy, cable knit snood, which came in handy in the sub-freezing temps, and I scored a band tee from my stepsons' band, but I managed to not buy anything, which is pretty highly unusual in such a shopping mecca.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the offerings in stores I normally drool over, but I'm also getting pickier. I must be growing up -- some shops that I loved a few years ago seem a bit unsophisticated for my style now.

I was disappointed at IRO. My blue leather moto is so soft and such a great part of my wardrobe, I thought I might find something there because they were having a good sale. But it seems they've changed their sizing -- not only have they adopted a European sizing scale, the cuts seem smaller overall -- the sleeves were tight even when sizing up, and the leathers felt stiffer.

Still, it was fun wandering all around Soho and the surrounding areas. We found some great-looking jeans for my hubs that are actually LONG enough for him, which is a major accomplishment.
