I find j. crew sizing on dresses, skirts, and pants to be difficult. The dresses seem to run small and shaped for very slim rectangle/hourglass shapes. WIth the fitted sheaths, if the waist area fits me, the bottom is always too big, and often the top as well. Just sayin'. I think the dress you thrifted is a different shape and has a more forgiving, less rigid fid than the more tailored items they carry.

You can definitely try them out to see, but don't do anything on final sale until you feel comfortable that it will work for you!

Thanks for posting this, Shannon! I see the dress is gone now in turquoise -- I hope you snapped it up!

Jenava, I have been looking for a navy skirt so I snapped that one up in navy! I also grabbed the pencil skirt in violet because I have been swooning over that color for ages and it's on sale! Yay! I ordered both the 2 and the 4 so hopefully one of them will fit!

Love the title of your post, Shannon. I often feel that way. :)

I enjoy J Crew and for me, their sizing is consistent. I just got two pencil skirts myself, and Crew has become my go-to for those. A few of us here have found their styles well suited for rectangles, but that could be an over generalization. If you like J Crew and crack the code on sizing and styles, you can often stalk things on eBay, too. Perhaps we will be seeing you in that lovely dress soon?

I have only ordered 3 or four tops through them and knock on wood so far the sizing has been ok. Beautiful and very ladylike dress Shannon! Jeneva, that skirt is beautiful!

Interesting to read the comments on JCrew sizing. I feel pretty comfortable shopping online with them because I've ordered several times and now I find their sizing inconsistencies consistent : ) For example, I always need one size down for chinos or casual pants compared to trousers for work and for sleeveless blouses compared to shirts and tops with sleeves. Their regular pencil skirts are too big in the waist if the hips fit but the factory pencil skirts fit fine in my trouser size. Matchstick and bootcut jeans have been very consistent for me - never a miss.

Yeah, I also found their sizing a little wonky. I have skirts of theirs in 2 and 4 - 2 is snug, 4 is gigantic. I also have their matchstick jeans in corduroy and denim 27 and 28 - the 27s feel like my size 26 Lucky's and the 28s feel like my size 30 Lucky shorts. That is quite a big difference!

yup on jcrew and slim in the hips. i don't know how two of the sundresses managed to fit a pear like me. i'm afraid to try them on again!

shannon, totally can see you in this dress with one of your great topper jackets. give it a whirl. the sizing inconsistency might work in your favor!

It is very pretty but I find their sizing is also very inconsistent. I have two skirts in the same size and one is way too big and the other is too snug. They also seemed to move to cuts that are very slim in the hips a few years ago.

I am an online shopper and quit buying from JCrew because I lost faith.
