Lol, Raisin. I'm pretty sure every other day I tell myself I've got to get it together. I always forget what I'm doing while in the middle of it. Nice to have you back online. I love your style. If I recall, you were getting ever more sophisticated with simplicity...

See, you're already ahead of the game! Aren't nice underwear sets a boost?

You know, I bet the whip-smart ladies here on YLF could get you started on the color thing. (I'm skeptical of "professional" color analyses bc they always equated my red hair and freckles with spring/autumn; but I look best in cool tones.)

What does your DH dislike about sweatpants?

Before I found YLF, I was borrowing bf's sweats (which are too big for him, and he's a lot wider than I am) when my one pair of leggings were in the laundry. He never complained, but learning about his preferences was enlightening. He requested charcoal-heather leggings, and loves the drapey cardigans (also grey, LOL) I bought for loungewear.

Like Lantana/Penny suggests, I also make use of semi-formal dresses for home-wear. Sometimes they don't stay on very long.

Can't wait to see your Pinterest boards! Or wait, was it someone else who mentioned that?

Ok I got some great ideas on where to start here. I do like the clothes I currently have so I'm going to work on making happy outfits for me. I also think pure right and my loungewear need a big overhaul. Even DH complains about my sweat pants. I did recently buy much needed new bras and even went for the matching underwear this time! Wow what a difference a bra makes. I think I look a size bigger haha! I told DH there is some serious false advertising going on here! I'd love to get a color analysis but have no idea where to do that. For now I'll focus on getting some colours into my wardrobe that I like, and hopefully they will look great too. I'm ok for winter shoes but I do need to look into my spring shoes. I love flats in s/a so I should be working on replacing those. Yay, I feel like I have some direction now!

Great to see you back, Raisin.

People like Marcy and Anna spend most of the week in scrubs, which makes the times they wear "real clothes" an absolute treat, and more fun than ever. They really make those times count. It's a fantastic attitude, and perhaps that way of thinking will work for you too.

Welcome back, Raisin! So many great ideas have already been floated. Here are a couple more:

1. Turbocharge your loungewear: What about urban minimalist knitwear? Eileen Fisher might not be the right fit for you, but I'm sure there are lines that have a sleek esthetic and great fabrication.

2. Make a small capsule to wear for 2-3 weeks, focusing on items that still feel like "you."

i second the pinterest board. it helps to define both the style aesthetic you are attracted to, and it will probably show you which colors you should start with. i find with colors its not just which look good on you, but also which colors make you feel like you. you can look good in red, but if you don't like red, you won't wear it.

Please pardon me for gently wondering this, but maybe the "need to start over" feeling isn't entirely about your clothes? Does it come from only wearing a uniform and sweats for months on end? Or from feeling restless in some other way? I ask because I seem to remember that you have a strong style, many gorgeous and distinctive clothing items, and a trim body that looks great in clothes and doesn't need "body type" styling fixes.

Hi Raisin and welcome back.
My twopence worth is to haul out your best dress up gear and wear it instead of leisure wear.
Just for fun you know and to break the cycle of always grabbing for the casual outfits.
That's what I've done today and gosh it feels so nice to be wearing high(er) end fabrications.
Another thing I've noticed on the forum is that when we feel most confused and lost and in a style rut is when we are deep in the muddle of learning and on the brink of change. Penny

I have no idea about clothing style.

But:

Do you love your hair right now? If not, I guess you'd start by finding a stylist who'll get you to cut and color that makes you smile when you stumble into the bathroom in the morning and catch sight of yourself in the mirror.

How about your undergarments? If you're in uniform all day all week, terrific bras and panties are your main option for feeling fantastic about how you look. (Forget what other people see; *you're* your most important audience, and you see your underwear at least twice a day.) Consider trying a set, if you haven't experienced that esthetic before. By all means allot a sizable chunk of your clothing budget for the highest-quality undergarments you can find, and get expert advice on fitting if you haven't been schooled previously. Prima Donna, Prima Donna Twist, Marie Jo, Marie Jo l'Aventure and another brand or so are made by a Belgian manufacturer with excellent quality standards -- far surpassing that of Wacoal or other easier-to-find lines. No, I don't work for Van de Velde (the manufacturer) or any affiliate; I'm just a stickler for quality, fit and longevity, and it's the best I've found so far. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Of course, having these two things in order might mean you run the risk of feeling delectable as-is, in uniforms and loungewear, thus diminishing your motivation for figuring out color, body shape and so on. **cough, cough***

But eh, hair and undergarments, hard to go wrong by getting those right.

There were a couple other essentials Angie mentioned. Clearly, I'm not that advanced yet. Footwear is my third building-block, just beginning work on that one. All I've really accomplished since finding YLF is (vast) improvement of my loungewear capsules, but that's been very much worth the effort.

Raisin, it's great to see you back! I'd say reading Angie's blog posts regularly for a while, and then maybe focusing on getting the spring summer capsule into great shape. I know you may not feel this way, but I think you have a defined aesthetic already (modern, clean-lined, with a bit of rocker edge) and there is lots of great stuff in your closet. But maybe you are moving into a slightly new phase (with work and/or the age of your kids) and need a style refresh. That will be fun.

Yay, Raisin! Why not start by thinking about spring, unless you feel that you need pieces to wear right now. Since I think footwear is a quick update, you might look at what you have and start these...after evaluating your hair style, bra fit and specs. Many find help making a Pinterest board of styles they like or aspire to. They can also be a source of inspiration for nee ways to wear what is in your closet.

Raisin, no worries. I've been largely absent since late October! Everyone here on YLF understands how the demand of life often have to come first. :)

I'm feeling the same as you….kind of taking stock after several months of not paying much attention to my wardrobe. Maybe you could start with a closet evaluation to see what you're wearing and what is lying dormant? That might give you a good starting point for the new year.

Waaah! So I know I was absent for a few months. (Sorry, life just got busy like it does ). But I feel like I need to start all over. I guess I'm technically a veteran now but I don't feel like I've made much progress style wise since I've started here. I have no idea what my real body shape is, I wear almost no colours because I don't know what looks good on me, and I have little desire to dress nicely after spending all day in a uniform.

All this to say I'm back and I'm gonna need some help! Got a figure out where to start now. Sorry, being all whiney. What should I do to get going?
