I can handle 3" heels for around 2 hours IF they are phenomenally comfy, well padded, and buttery soft with a stable heel and I get a brief rest (on the subway for example). But there is never an occasion where that is practical for me and in my entire shoe shopping experience, I have only ever found 2 pairs that are orphans in my closet since I'm always at least a 5 hour walker.
