Thank you for the photos and the encouragement, Claudia! The AT dress is gorgeous.

Right now I'm on the fence indeed, partly due to mixed response here, butt mainly because this dress might be a miss colorwise, it is very dressy and maybe only suited for my imaginary lifestyle after all. It is also expensive, and want/need several other things, too. Sigh. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread!

I think that dress is really beautiful and dreamy looking. My guess is that it will look soft, sophisticated and lovely on you with your coloring, but you won't know for sure until you have it on. Styling it with the right makeup and accessories will be important.

It reminded me of this look (from Ann Taylor's Spring 2012 Lookbook) and I thought I'd post it so you and others can sort of envision this neutral/nude color on a real person because just seeing the Ted Baker website photos doesn't do a color like this justice. I am biased, because I love this nude/blush color on people it flatters.

I am including one more picture from the AT lookbook because it shows gold metallic with it. I think navy would be great along with the red family. Emerald and deeper greens, beige, and taupe too.

FIrst of all - thank you for chiming in here, everybody, all of you have valid arguments in my opinion. The occasion I have in mind is the upcoming holidays first of all. I always dress up for Christmas dinner and for New Years Eve. It can also be worn to the Christmas party at work. It has a classic style that will make it last for many seasons, in my opinion, and it could also be worn during Spring/Summer dressy events. No?

Will the color suit me? I'm not sure at all. I have a fairly light, quite warm, but not very warm complexion, and I tan easily. My skin is never really pale or pink. I have green eyes with golden flecks, and with some blue in them. They read as quite dark, I think. My hair is medium brown, or maybe dark blonde, but with a golden undertone. I'm feeling uncertain about whether I suit such colors or not, particularly after the camel coat experience. I look good in many colors, from pastel to brights, but maybe this one will make me look washed out. The only way I can determine this is by trying, and the dress is in another country, meaning I will have to pay import tax/VAT If I order it. Tricky, that one.

I see your point about the "naked" look, Kari, and I appreciate your outspokenness. I don't share that opinion on very soft pinks and beiges in general, however. I realize that this dress is not everyone's cup of tea. For me, it is a departure form a more crisp and simple look that I normally prefer, but I really loved the dress when I saw it in Paris. And I don't mind looking a little bit like a princess once in a while. RoseandJoan, thank you for sharing the link to Princess Kate's lace dresses. They are gorgeous, many of them. I understand that you want to put some distance between you and your young daughters, style-wise. That makes sense when you have small children.

Jenava, I actually love the faux fur bolero! Burgundy with blush pink/nude is beautiful, you are so right. IF I buy this dress, I will style it with patent leather pumps in a dark red, or metallic pumps. I would look for a clutch that is streamlined and simple, and I suppose a pair of earrings, a bracelet or a cocktail ring would be the accessories. I would look for a dark red coverup, too, I think. but I wouldn't be spending huge amounts on that. Navy could possibly be an alternative, or teal, or chocolate brown.

I hear ya RoseandJoan - I really can't do bright pink at all since I have two young dds....
This dress however reads more neutral/nude to me.

I am sorry Ingunn, I am finding I am having strong aversions to the things my young daughters covet such as pleating and polka dots, this is my issue and not yours.

Conincidently, the person who does wear pastel lace dresses very well is a princess, I believe they are one of Kate Middleton's signature looks and may be helpful when styling a dress like this http://www.google.co.uk/search.....38;bih=559

Oh, as, ahem, Queen Blush Pink, I love this color! The style itself is too feminine for me, but if you like it then that's that! If I recall you are somewhat warm complexioned, so this might be a difficult color to pull off? Have you tried it on/held it up to assess the color?

ETA - Ted Baker - ironically, bought a Ted Baker dress in Paris as well! Mine is a bright grass-green party frock that I've only worn once (no longer fits...sniff). I have one other dress from him that I also love, and find his designs fit me very well, FWIW.

As for styling - I would wear this with either a cardi or cropped jacket. A fuzzy short cardigan would be fun! As for the color I would probably go with cream and stick to a pale color scheme, however you could probably pair this color with just about any jewel-tone or neutral and it would work. In fact, one of my favorites is burgundy or purple and blush.

Like this...too much? (-:

I hope it's okay to be very honest - but on most women with a pale complexion, this would be one of those dresses that would set off my "is that person naked?" filter because it's so very desaturated. The dress looks like it has enough structure that it might not be an issue, though. My other concern is that, in my opinion, that color is really tricky to wear in a flattering way if it's an all-in-one piece like a dress, without having any other items to bring color to your face. It could be one of those soul-sucking colors if it's too close to your skin tone.
Take this with a big grain of salt because, in general, pastels are probably my least favorite colors and I can't wear blush or beige for the life of me. I do like a lot of the blush jackets I've seen YLFers wear because they are pairing the pale jacket with tops or necklaces that have more contrasting color and make the overall look quite flattering.

That is very pretty. I think the sophisticated shape keeps it from reading "twee" -- but I do see a romantic, ladylike vibe, which seems like it would be nice for your style. The color may be tricky, but there's only one way to find out if it works on you, right?

Just gorgeous detailing in back. Beautiful dress. In terms of the color, sometimes what I do is print out the picture and then take it to a store to see if I can find something similar in color an try that next to my face.

I have a love hate relationship with Ted baker. I love his prints and styles, however the fit is usually off for me. Also, it annoys me that a $300+ dress would be polyester. That said, I am still lusting after one of his waistcoats (the ones with the printed back panels).

I'll look into the color if I find anything in a similar shade. I agree that "nude" is as good a description as any. To avoid an overly feminine, twee or girly look: How would you style this?

I can see you in this style, Ingunn. I do think there is some danger of its looking "twee" if not "princess." To some it might read overly lady-like, particularly in pink (would be quite different in ink blue). Not to mention the difficulties of wearing this colour. However, if you CAN wear this colour it would be sophisticated and soft...very lovely.

That's such a pretty dress- do you have an occasion in mind for it?
The color looks to me to be a "nude" shade rather than really pink, but colors can be deceiving on computer screens.

I agree with you about it having more of a Downton Abbey feeling than princess. The question comes down to the color. It's not a universally flattering color, but could look gorgeous on the right person. On me it would look like absolute death!

Can you find a piece of fabric or something approximating that color that you can hold up next to your face to see how it looks?

When I was in Paris, I saw this dress. It is gorgeous. They didn't have it in my size, but now I've found it on the TB website. What do you think? Will it suit me? I've never had anything in pale pink before. How should I style it if I buy it?

ETA: It's the dress ALIANA - Lace detail button back dress, in my browser it is in the top row to the right in the dresses section, in case the page doesn't load properly.

I'm very tempted.
