I semi-tuck to show my belts and prevent my legs from looking too stumpy, while still maintaining a casual vibe. If your look doesn't have a casual/rough element, it may not work for you... but that's just personal preference.

I like the rumply, casual vibe of this look but I can't understand how people wear it without the shirt shifting and bunching. Then again, I can't understand how people even wear completely tucked tops without shifting and bunching.

Oh, I remember this....what year was it? Ah, yes......1989. Didn't know it was back. Are they doing the triple socks with stirrup pants yet (again)? I recently saw tight-rolled jeans. I'm in no hurry to re-live my jr high days.

So does my DS6...

I don't think I can pull off the look, but I've been surprised to find how much the look has grown on me after seeing people wear it on the forum.

I like the semi-tuck too, and have done it in similar ways to what Aida shows here. It works well for casual looks with my jeans that need to be belted (becoming more of an issue these days as they get looser) and certain lightweight tops that drape or fall in a certain way. They can't be stiff.

I hate wearing my pager. So when I'm in house it's always hidden under my scrub top, clipped to my pants. When I'm on call in street clothes, I just clip it to my bag. Admittedly when I'm at work I'm wheeling a very large heavy ultrasound machine, so people just get out of my way.

As to semi-tuck I like it but have never done it.

I do the semi-tuck sometimes to show my authority.

Let me explain: the pager, in the hospital, is the sign of power. It means you're not a med 1 or a med 2. It means you're a slave. But at the same time, it means that you are house staff.

So I clip the pager to my waistline, and then I tuck my shirt behind it, and it's semi-tucked. And shows off my pager of power. So I don't get hassled by security guards all the time. :p

It's definitely a style preference, and Angie's blog post inspired me to try it. I now love the semi-tuck and sport often! Not limited to tees, it also works well with other types of tops. I think I dress fairly "grown-up" and am somewhat polished, and it fits in well for my style. That said, I do also wear fully tucked tops, and of course untucked tops most of the time. Casual examples below, #1 is just this past week. I don't think it's something everyone has to like for themselves, though :)

EDIT: Elisabeth's thoughts on the belt buckle bump are very astute, that is part of what draws me to this style as well.

I'm also in the Joy camp - on me I think it would just look sloppy and unintentional.

(I HAAAAAATE this look for some reason; it just gets on my nerves. I hear my inner grandma coming out: "tuck your shirt in, young lady!")

It does seem to work better on ladies who don't have a lot of excess flesh around the midsection - another reason why it wouldn't work on me.

I'm a fan of the semi-tuck. But then, I like the casually-rumpled look over-all....sleeves pushed up, pant legs rolled etc. I'm not at all polished so I guess it suits me. I've been doing it for years and felt quite vindicated when Angie did her blog post on the topic. Also. it was nice to see someone I consider very polished show the technique as a purposeful style element.

per Joy: "Unfortunately I'm not polished enough for the look to look deliberate" - that's me too. I've tried it and it looks very un-deliberate on me. I love it on Clinton Kelly from What Not To Wear though.

I do the semi tuck sometimes. It only works with low-rise jeans and a casual, fitted, cotton jersey knit top of exactly the right length. To my eye it doesn't work with a dressier outfit, with higher-waisted jeans or even a casual skirt.

The reason I do the semi tuck is that when you wear a belt (which I often need to do to prevent jean slide-down) , the buckle leaves a big lump under your shirt. Tucking your top to display to the buckle gets around this, but the top has to be a little clingy. A looser, woven shirt or blouse tucked in front and flapping around at the back looks funny, to be sure.

This issue ties right in with one of the reasons I joined this forum. I had been having problems with jean slide-down, and joined so I could ask advice about how to prevent this without wearing a belt. Someone (I can't remember who) suggested wearing a slim belt and sliding the buckle over to your hip to avoid the unsightly belt-buckle lump. I tried it, and it works! So I'd like to give credit where credit is due -- whoever you are, thanks for the tip! I do the semi-tuck a lot less often now that I have that trick up my sleeve.

Thanks for the link to Angie's post - I read it and the responses. It strikes me as sort of a school girl thing (one responder talked about the boys coming back in from playing rugby at recess with their shirts hanging out and their ties around their heads).

I'm really into being a grown up right now (not saying that won't change) - maybe that's why it doesn't appeal to me.
