Well considering my foot is only 9" and I am only 5'2 it should crack you up. Next time I go to the mall I'll try on a pair of 5" heels and see how far I can make it before tumbling to my demise. Of course if I do that I can't really report back can I?

OK, I just followed up my experiment and I can see a grain of truth in the article...but only a grain.

Heels are better for feet like mine (totally flat and overpronating) because they force the foot into an arched position. But this comes at the expense of other parts of the foot, so it isn't really worth it.

I grabbed the highest heels I own (around 3.25" high with a 1" platform...absolute suburban sitting shoes for me). While they gave me a better arch, my feet still pronated a bit. So to somewhat emulate the height of a 5" heel, I took off one shoe and placed the heel of my other foot (with the shoe still on it) on the platform of the shoe I removed. That brought me up to 4.25". This made my foot almost normal, so I can see why a 5" incline would be best for my total lack of a natural arch.

The flipside is that my already wide-set bones splay out even more, making the shoe even more painfully tight, and the balls of my feet are carrying far too much weight.

I maintain that the best thing is to simply get some Superfeet black insoles and stick them in a pair of padded flats, or up to 2" heels. I wonder why I didn't become a podiatrist.

Oh yeah, I hate looking at other people's gnarly feet (much less touching them...ewww!).

So I guess I have Barbie feet too...but I'll stick with my Skipper shoes!

I have a few body shape challenges (hello there, short waist) but thankfully foot issues aren't one of them. I can wear anything from flats to a 3.25" heel comfortably all day and I'll squeeze my hooves into nearly any shoe that catches my eye :0

Maybe that makes up for not being able to pull off the belted look. *sigh*

Hmmm, I have a super high arch, I have been told...This must be a factor for me.

This article made no sense to me though. The last paragraph says that you shouldn't walk too far or for too long in your "ideal" heel height. Instead, you should switch into "more comfortable" shoes. I thought your allegedly ideal heel height was supposed to be the most comfortable? If you can't walk long or far in it, then what is the point of wearing such a shoe?

I don't think flats are necessarily better than heels. A lot of them are downright painful if they are too stiff, too flat, or not padded or supportive. I try to use my Superfeet insoles wherever possible to keep my foot stable and supported. The reason I don't like heels is because they destroy the balls of my feet. My 3" DKNYC wedges are quite comfortable for my flat arches...but they just put too much pressure at the front of my foot.

I LOVE this article....see my feet don't hurt...foot structure is the reason...I was born to wear high heels. Honestly I never found flats to be any more comfy than 4 inch heels:) Thanks Maya

edit: 5 inches

I also love the implication that Victoria Beckham was wearing sky high heels because of comfort issues!

Remember this article?

I went to measure and according to the instructions, I should be wearing 5" heels! Maybe that is why my feet hurt so much. I'm not wearing high ENOUGH heels!

Just joking...

Yeah, I'm not buying it. But it amused me anyway.
