And what about consignment shops? Are there any shops like that in your neck of the woods?

It took me more than a year to settle back into a stable weight and shape, and that was just after one kid, so I feel your pain ;-)
If do you want to do a little bit of shopping (and I think it can be a wonderful "pick me up" when your current closet gets you down, Target is a great recommendation, especially for wrap style tops and dresses (which are very forgiving as I can attest :-)) My latest dress purchase there was $18...
Also try JC Penney, you might find something fun there as well.

Anne, I completely understand it! I just got back to my normal size after baby no.2, and it took longer this time. I did get a lot of cheap shirts from Target (they seemed to get dirty constantly) and jeans off the juniors sales rack to last through this period. It was hard to accept the fact that I am not going to look presentable... even though there's barely any time for it. I am just starting to buy regular decent clothes again, and since I haven't done it in a while it's overwhelming! What I learned here at YLF helps a lot. I can't wait to get rid of these transitional clothes.

Thanks Tanya and Nicole.
We don't have Old Navy here - we do have Target. All the pants I have were specifically bought as transition (and/or 2nd trimester) pieces. You are right - definately don't want to buy anything expensive for some time yet. My jeans that just grow and grow are from Target and really annoy me - it is the second pair of jeans from there that have stretched like that, so I'm a bit wary of going there again.
But I really hate buying pants anyway! I haven't bought a decent non-casual pair in my normal size since 1999 (that pair is still going strong). Hopefully I will learn enough from YLF to buy something again in 6 months or so's time!

I second Nicole's suggestion, ON has recently come up with much nicer designs than usual. Target might be another good place for inexpensive transition pieces.

Anne, Do you have Old Navy in Au? Or do they ship overseas? Their clothes are cheap, and not particularly well made, but they are stylish and current. Since you're body shape will change over the next year (even if you don't lose that last 10 pounds.) you probably don't want to buy any investment pieces. Stores like Old Navy are great for filling the gap until you fit into your old clothes, or until you can buy better quality new ones.

Exaggerating of course! Not after advice this time, just commiserations. It is just awkward in this post preggy situation (baby no 3 is 4 months today) when few of my pants and skirts fit. I have one pair of maternity jeans, 2 highwaisted bengaline pants that I feel are too tight around the thighs so only wear with tunic lengths and one pair of jeans that I have because they have stretched so much around the waist I can take them off without unbuttoning. And one skirt. And since clothes get so dirty with kids I frequently get down to only one clean item left.
I have managed to get back to my old clothes the 2 times so I'm hoping I will again and it doesn't seem worth it to buy new clothes for only a few months wear as I am on a tight budget.
However someone told me today I looked like I'd got the weight off (actually 10 pounds to go) so perhaps the beholders eye is a bit kinder!
